In the picture below I used some electrical tape to secure the wire in place but the cover is a pretty tight fit so I think that is what will actually act as the strain relief.

(The relay module I bought has the opposite polarity of what should really be used here, but there's both NO and NC terminals on the relay itself so it still works.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I thought I'd share my experience here in case there is someone else as picky as me. I am one of the lucky crowd to have a CDR-23 in my '04 C4S without any easy audio aux port. I want both high quality bluetooth music streaming and hands-free bluetooth phone. The radio mono port gets me the phone (with a cheap adapter) but no good music. The Dension solution has the best audio quality (but $$!), but unfortunately the only compatible Dension units don't have bluetooth capability. So a few years ago I bit the bullet and installed a Dension Gateway Lite adapter along with a Himbox HB01 bluetooth hands free car kit. It gives me everything I want except the overall operation is clunky: If I hook the bluetooth unit to unswitched power, I have a to manually poke it every time I get in the car to "wake it up" so it pair with my phone and then I have to wait 10 seconds or hit another button until it figures out I don't want to talk to Siri. Like I said: clunky. Alternatively I can hook the bluetooth unit to switched power, but then I lose my audio as soon as I turn off the ignition key. Not useful when you are playing the radio with the car off, or when I'm on a phone call and I pull into the parking lot and need to finish it. Keeping the car running just to finish a phone call seems both dumb AND clunky. What I really want is power that is switched by the radio itself. When the radio is on (no matter the state of the ignition key), my bluetooth should be on. When the radio is off, my bluetooth should be off. It turns out that the backlight LED's inside the head unit exactly track this behavior. Inspired by by this, I found a simple photo controlled relay on amazon and went to work. GEREE DC 12V Light Control Switch The Photoresistor Plus Relay Module Photosensitive Sensor GEREE DC 12V Light Control Switch The Photoresistor Plus Relay Module Photosensitive Sensor The top of the CDR-23 is very easy to remove using a spudger or screwdriver at the edge (no screws, just friction). This reveals a convenient place on the right front to install the photo diode right next to a front panel LED and route the wire back out to a nice gap that is left when the cover is re-installed. In the picture below I used some electrical tape to secure the wire in place but the cover is a pretty tight fit so I think that is what will actually act as the strain relief. Bend the photo diode wires to make roughly a right angle Tape the photo diode in place behind one of the front panel LED's and route the wire out through the indicated gap. Here are two action shots showing how the relay activates and deactivates in line with the radio power. (The relay module I bought has the opposite polarity of what should really be used here, but there's both NO and NC terminals on the relay itself so it still works. It draws 30mA while the car's off, which is about what the bluetooth module was drawing all the time from the unswitched power, so basically the same load.) Relay state with radio power off Relay state with radio power on For fun, I also attach a little video with an action sequence. Finally now my bluetooth works the way I want! POST 2Original post

Nice write up I have a dension gateway 500 and also wanted Bluetooth. I searched for quite awhile and finally found a solution: bovee WMA1000 which plugs into the 30pin ipod cable and gives you Bluetooth. Turns off and on with the radio/dension and the quality is as good as plugging in an ipod and it doesn't require an external power source you just plug it onto the end of the cable.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Nice adapter! Did you put your Dension on the switched power?

POST 4Original post

The adapter was exactly what i needed Dension installation calls for it to only be connected to constant power, the MOST loop turns the dension and the amplifier on and off when the head unit turns off. I haven't fully installed it yet but I plan to just wire it directly to the battery with the positive fused.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yes, it seems perfect. Let us know how it goes!

I was originally going to install a wired FM modulator but opted for the Dension for the quality but was then stuck with either AUX or an ipod, until I found the Bovee WMA1000.
