Suggestion
Looks pretty clean for 99k miles - I am always willing to pay a premium for super low mileage very clean cars - many on this forum do not agree with me on this but I think it decreases the odds of having a catastrophic engine failure or at least I will get lots of trouble free miles of ownership before anything major goes wrong.

I was originally planning on a 996 for my 40th bday, but I keep getting sucked into looking at ads, and this is my second test drive (scheduled for tomorrow)!

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

First time poster here!
Please, see below ads, same vehicle.
Options are minimal, and according to KBB, fair dealer value is $13-$17k!

Dealer wants 19,999 which seems pretty high.

Options codes are as follows:
C02 - All USA except CA
425 - Rear Window Wiper
436 - 3 spoke steering wheel
437 - Comfort Seat, Left, Electronically Adjustable
438 - Comfort Seat, Right, Electronically Adjustable
446 - Wheel Caps with Colored Crest
476 - PSM, Abrasive Brake Pad
537 - Left Seat with Positrol and Lumbar
692 - 6 Disc CD changer
No real maintenance history, but it does have the LN Engineering IMS Retrofit sticker, which dates the IMSB replacement to April 2015. Dealer says he replaced the AOS as well. He says unknown RMS history, but no leaks, and unknown clutch history, but transmission was out at 25k miles (now has 99k miles) and maybe had a new clutch at that time.
It has BBS wheels, not sure if these are aftermarket or a Porsche option.
At $19,999 with tax, title, etc, it would be around $22k OTD. I was thinking of offering $17k OTD (all taxes, etc. incl.), which I doubt he will accept, but I think he is priced too high. What do you all think?
I've never owned a Porsche before, but I have dreamed of a 911 since I was 12 (now 38). I was originally planning on a 996 for my 40th bday, but I keep getting sucked into looking at ads, and this is my second test drive (scheduled for tomorrow)!
Thanks for any insight knowledgeable forum-dwellers may provide!
That is high. As a comparison, here's a link to my former 2000 C2 with a lot less miles that is still for sale. Better optioned, clutch, IMS, and RMS done.

Thanks Jester! What are the options on this vehicle? What do you think would be a fair price for the vehicle I posted? $17k OTD? AZ tax is around 8%, which makes me want to go private party of course.

I have owned a low mileage 986 and a low mileage 996 with no regrets but I paid a premium - if you can get the car $17k all in that would be a pretty fair deal
I think $17k OTD is a good starting point and you're right they'll definitely counter. If you can get this car for $18.5k OTD that's a win because for 100k miles and 18 years that car is clean as hell. GLWP!
P.S. Don't know what area you're in but I would insist on a pre-purchase inspection from a reputable Porsche mechanic or dealer (if you can find one that does PPI's) before I make a firm offer.
I'll PM you if I can locate a picture of the option sticker. Agree with the others that you should start at 17K. The relative rarity of the color, I believe, is what is bumping the price up a bit. For what I traded mine in for, I'm willing to bet mine could be had for 17-18K. The dollar figure the previous owner traded it in for is probably similar so I would feel comfortable starting the bidding at 17K.
Go on KBB, Edmunds, NADA, etc. and do the math on trade-in value, which is probably somewhere south of $10K. This is what a knowledgeable dealer would pay for a trade-in or at dealer auctions, depending on condition. Absent good
and verifiable
maintenance records, especially IMSB and RMS, there're no way to regard any car as better than fair condition. This is the arithmetic the dealers all use and base their asking prices on a given markup. maybe as much as 50%. So, start by offering no more than $12K, and settle for no more than $15K.
This assumes you have verifiable answers to maintenance history questions. Also keep in mind that right now in the winter post-Christmas doldrums where people have heating and tax bills due, the dealer has a choice of unloading this thing now, or being stuck with it until May, with cash flow problems in the meantime....
I am in Az and I don't even bother with any of the dealers here, $19k is high for the miles. For $2k more there was a 2000 Yellow Aero Kit for $21k with 55k miles that sold, just as a reference. I am on the hunt and with the prices bottoming out, expect for dealer prices, theres some good deals to be out there. As always PPI and well sorted records can help you...Good luck on your search
OK guys, I just looked at the car. Wouldnt you know it, CEL was on when I started it, dealer said "It wasnt on yesterday"!
Front hood struts were bad, no evidence of paint work, lots of rock chips on hood. Tires were 7 years old. I think this one is a pass, even with the IMS refit :-(
Dealer is going to have the CEL checked to let me know what the code is, but seems like there are probably better optioned examples out there with all of the major fixes completed for less cost.
