Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Just thought fellow 996 owners may find this interesting. Here is the Fuel Door gap & alignment on my beautiful 996 Aero vs the Fuel Door Gap on my new-to-me Ferrari California. And no, the Cali has never been in an accident. And yes, the 996 is the best bargain there is. 996 Fuel Door 996 MK1 Aero Cali Fuel Door

POST 2Original post

Any chances of seeing some additional pics of the cali?

POST 3Original post

That's pretty lame on Ferrari's part ! Is there any adjustment available (slots on the hinges perhaps?) ? I find it hard to believe that a $200k+ car (that regularly sell used for $100k+) could have such shoddy body work...

sorry, I took this photo inside the original owners mansion, so out of respect for his privacy I blocked out most of his huge garage.

POST 5Original post

Great post and thanks for sharing.... but something tells me when you hear that exhaust note at start up such annoyances fade 😁

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

i totally agree. Its not good. Make me love the 996 even more. And the engine is in the right place too!! here is my rather expensive solution.

POST 7Original post

My favorite Italian storefront sign said "Sometimes we open". Sums up the Italian attitude and lifestyle perfectly. I bet you they didn't skip steps on the V8. Congrats on the Ferrari, bucket list item crossed, no doubt!

POST 9Original post

I don't know , I've owned many bikes , mostly BMW and Ducatis, had a shop for a while , most unreliable bikes we saw ? Harleys. Modern ducatis are pretty reliable , and I'll take setting Desmo valves over Japanese bucket and shims any day . the belts on a modern duc are easier than those on. 944s and 928s by a long shot . that aircooled 2 valve 1000 in the picture is totally serviceable by a home mechanic , every year there are less & less bikes you can say that about .

POST 10Original post

Lol. That's exactly it! Also, doesn't help that they can easily sell everyone they make. Once you get behind the F-car wheel, say your silent prayer to the motoring gods that no Check Engine Lights come on, the sound and power are intoxicating. My Cali has been pretty reliable as F-cars go, but sheesh I've got more warning messages in a little less than 2 years and 10 K miles than my wife's Honda Ridgeline has gotten in 13 years and 213K miles! Fortunately, so far, they've gone away with a restart or a little TLC from the good folks at Boardwalk Ferrari. OP... Interior pics? Lovely Cali. T

POST 11Original post

Im calling BS on this one. I just looked up 1/2 dozen or so Ferrari Calis and so far yours is the only one with a jacked up fuel door. I dont believe for a second that Ferrari would let that go out of the factory like that, much less go out on to the show room floor. Heres just a few examples. https://goo.gl/1pjtf9 https://goo.gl/dTtsJr https://goo.gl/oL5EUR

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 14773642

LOL, whats the BS?? Never claimed they were all like this. But mine definitely is. Do you need me to shoot a video?? Car has no accident history according to both Carfax and Autocheck. I am the second owner. Car has 8,750 miles. Previous owner claims it has never seen rain. Windshield and headlight looks brand new and doesnt even have a single micro-rock chip that I could find. I have a 2017 Infiniti with 3,100 miles that has more micro-rock chips on the windshield already. Car spent its entire life in a climate controlled 7 car, two level garage. I bought the car from the butler/house manager. Owner showed up last minute only to sign the title. He was rich enough to not even need to look at the Cashiers check and took his butlers word for it. Car has only been dealer serviced ever and the Ferrari dealership has been okay with that fuel door for the last 8,750 miles. Again, what are you calling BS on ??? I dont understand.

POST 13Original post

Quotes source post: 14773694

somebody effed the fuel door up that for sure. that was my point. You made your post to sound like Ferrari would make a bad body line on the fuel door and Porsche wouldnt, that what I call BS on.

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 14773699

LOL, the fuel door works perfectly. The dealership has been okay with it for the last 8,750 miles. What is make a bad body line? What does that even mean?? I never said that. What are you taking about?? You checked 3 cars online (not in person) and determined my car is impossible.

POST 15Original post

My 996 is in the shop but I took a picture of my 997 and Huracan...seems to be equal quality but you be the judge... granted audi/VW owns Lamborghini. 997 above....Huracan below

Brand NEW $400,000 Ferrari 812 Superfast parked on the street. Notice the rear diffuser?? Does it seem a little misaligned to you??? Still think Im full of BS?

POST 17Original post

Rear diffuser definitely out of alignment. I wouldn't touch a Ferrari if it was free.

POST 18Original post

Quotes source post: 14773786

Just interested. How many Ferraris have you driven ?

POST 19Original post

Quotes source post: 14773808

That is a great question :-)

POST 20Original post

I can't stop looking at that car but it's not because of the janky diffuser. Oh l l.

POST 21 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 14773847

here you go... without Pininfarina, its not good from every angle though.

POST 22Original post

Old "Nationalistic adages", like all British cars leak oil, haven't applied for sometime. Today, the automobile industry is a "world" industry...Chinese builders hire German engineers, Italian stylists, etc. Heck, my last Jaguar, a 2004, was the most reliable car I had ever owned, and didn't leak a drop of oil ! Who wudda thought. relinuca.

POST 23Original post

German Perfection vs. Italian Good enough...............IMSB. Do I need to say more?

POST 24Original post

Tesla has worse build quality than that, and they sell every car they make. I asked a salesperson at a Tesla store how they could sell cars with doors that were 1/4 inch out of alignment when no other $100,000.00 car had those problems. I was told that nobody bought them for the build quality. Nobody buys an Italian car because they expect it to last 20 years and 500,000 miles.

POST 25Original post

Quotes source post: 14774093

They don't fall apart after 20 years. My 360 doesn't have 500,000 miles (subtract one zero), but it is nearly 20 years old and looks almost as good a new and definitely still runs as good a new.

POST 26Original post

Quotes source post: 14774099

I didn't say they fall apart. I said people don't buy them because they last for 20 years. They buy them for other reasons. Did you buy your 360 because of its reputation for longevity and low maintenance costs?

POST 27Original post

Quotes source post: 14774115

Ah......I see your distinction. I misinterpreted your statement. Cheers.

POST 28Original post

Quotes source post: 14774093

Probably why SpaceX Musk is using his Tesla as the payload for the Falcon 9 Heavy rocket test on Tuesday. He said in all likelihood the thing will explode on the pad, or blow up before achieving orbit.

POST 29Original post

I just want to know who drove the Ferrari up on the curb and knocked the diffuser out of alignment? I highly doubt it left the factory like that...😉

POST 30Original post

Ha, funny bunch here. OP is absolutely right and I don't doubt for one minute that the fuel door was like that from the factory. As I alluded earlier in this thread, Ferrari doesn't get you w/ it's engineering efficiency or perfect logic approach to car building like the Krauts, it's the intoxicating smells, sounds and performance that hooks ya. Never owned one, but i have access to a couple and they are a thing. It's funny how a simple pic of the fuel door on your Cali says sooo much about the modus operandi of German vs Italian culture. And i neglected to send congrats on the acquisition, she's beautiful! I take it you're in between butlers and that's why your's wasn't around to deal w/ the seller's butler? As an aside, I'd be willing to bet the rear diffuser on that Superfast was the byproduct of a careless driver.

POST 31Original post

Our winery has mostly German equipment , the stainless tanks have doors that seal like a u boat hatch . Big stainless steel wheel and bracing the hatches are self aligning and it's impossible to fit them incorrectly . They never leak . we have a couple wooden tanks with stainless Italian lids and fittings , the lids are held on with very imprecise cams , it takes a while to learn the feel of when they are closed properly too loose they leak , too tight and you come over cam and the lid pops off . I've learned to place my pinky on the edge of the seal and feel for the compression as I tap the cam lever home with a little rubber mallet. I have to do this on 15 levers and criss cross the span of the lid alternating sides One of the Liveroni wine pumps needs to be plugged in for 5 mins to warm up before you use it , the other identical pump works just like the badly translated manual says it should , plug in and go . that said , the red wine that comes out of those wooden tanks is pretty special

POST 32 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Sadly, the 812 rear diffuser problem is not a careless new Ferrari owner treating their new expensive toy like a Jeep Wrangler. These images are courtesy of a user name MDEL on Ferrarichat. I am using them without having asked his permission.

POST 33Original post

It looks nice, those new C7 corvettes sure look good. Looks like Chevy even put imitation yellow brakes on the Corvette.
