Thanks again for any feedback and I guess I should have checked my papaer work first before posting-oh well.

They are in Roseville and were recommended by another shop that I dont have any experience with either.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

An alignment fixed the problem and made a big difference in the cars handling.
The tires I'm concerned about are on my 1999 996. The tires are pretty wide at 285 18's.
The left tire is worn to the cord on the extreme inside of the tire tread. What would cause this? The right side shows some wear but nothing to the extent of the left. Are these tires too wide for this make and model? Or is the camber out of wack, etc.
Thanks for any reply...,

Hey jumpy, I also have 285's on 18x10.5 rear wheels. It is the correct width for that size wheel. How many miles are on the tires? Inner wear is not necessarily unusual, unless the tires are relatively new. Uneven wear would indicate to me that you should have the car taken to an alignment shop that is able to work on these vehicles. They should, no matter what, be wearing evenly.
Dr.
Thanks for getting back to me so quick.
Not sure of the mileage. Bought the car last July. included paper work states one rear tire bought from Discount Tire
January 18. The stated cost is 171.00 dollars, so I'm thinking one tire. Previous owner probably just bought the right rear
to save money. I would guess they both had quite a bit of wear and I am stuck with a worn left side tire.
Not real confident with Discont's inventory. Will probably spring for two new ones for the back before the spring driving season.
Should I have the car aligned before buying new tires? Would the uneven wear between the two matter when aligning?
Thanks again for any feedback and I guess I should have checked my papaer work first before posting-oh well.

Tirerack.com has some good seasonal deals, sign up for their e-newsletter and keep an eye out for the next one. I'll bet near springtime they'll have some sales. I got about a 25% off deal on my Bridgestone Pole Position S-04's two years ago, April. The way I would handle it would be to buy the new tires and take them to the shop to be installed at the same time as the alignment, so that the fresh tires start mile 1 with a good setup.
Back to your tires - would it make sense to you that the less-worn tire is the new one and the worn tire is the original? I agree $171 sounds like just one tire. No matter what - an alignment will save you $$$ in the long run.
I had the same issue with excessive inner tire wear on one side. Alignment had too much toe out. An alignment fixed the problem and made a big difference in the cars handling.

i will need to look for the receipt as I dont recall who did it. They are in Roseville and were recommended by another shop that I dont have any experience with either. I wont be going back because I dont think they know Porsches very well. When done, they mentioned that they could not get the left side rear camber within spec and suggested adjustable links to fix the problem. Car is totally stock so unlikely the links are necessary. I plan on taking it to another shop in down town Sac after I get my new tires.
