Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

It read fine in the last car that it was installed (FSI motor).
Leading evidence: 'Install (fsi motor)' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Install (fsi motor)' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I checked with my phone later and another Garmin GPS unit and now I have a double din installed with GPS and all confirmed from 18 mph and over the car is off by 4 mph.

It came out of my car when I replaced my 996.1 3.4L engine with a 997S engine and was no longer compatable.

Fuel level is a new thing and oil pressure seems to be a result of this car - but getting gauge tested next week.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Questions about a potentially failing instrument cluster...
1) Speedometer has been 6mph off since I bought the car (wheels are the same diameter as stock). I never really cared though.
2) Oil pressure always read a bit low on the old motor and continues to do so on the new FSI motor. I read somewhere that if you turn the key to the "on" position and the oil pressure reads anything - it's starting to fail. Mine reads nearly 1/2bar in the 'on' position. Also seems about 1/2 bar lower than it should be.
3) Fuel gauge has recently (over the last 6 months) started to be sluggish and, in many cases, read 1/4 tank low.
Anyone have any experience with this?
2) The new FSI motor should have its own oil pressure sender so I assume now you're using that sender. If so, seems it's not a sender issue. Sender is not expensive and it's easy to replace so you may as well try that first
3) Sounds like the fuel level sender is sluggish inside the fuel tank. May be worthwhile to replace the sender
I don't believe its a sender. It read fine in the last car that it was installed (FSI motor). I'll bring it by my indy to have a pressure test with the gauge to confirm.
The speedometer being "off" is a known "feature" of the 996. Yours is more off than normal, but if you're running any wheel/tire combo greater than the stock circumferences, that would explain the difference.
The fuel level sender can bind, especially in a car where the fuel pump has been recently replaced. I had this issue after replacing the fuel pump.
The cluster doesn't have much in the way of "smarts" that would affect indicated vs. actual values. In fact, the inside of the cluster is less sophisticated than many of the toys I disassembled during the 80's...
Is the speedo being off usually over/under? My fiance` in the past, especially when driving the car home and she in her Audi behind me (which is dead-on from what I can tell, passing most speed indicators on the road) that my car runs about 5mph too slow. I'm having the original size/width/offset 225/8 and 295/11 18s put on and it's ready for pickup, so wonder if that will help. The old/current wheels were 8/9.5...
The speedo reads faster then actual car speed. If it read lower then actual Porsche might be liable for suits when folks get speeding tickets.
Typically the odometer will read accurately.
The oil pressure sending units on these cars is notoriously problematic.
Wait till you hear “BING” and see the gauge blinking “NO OIL PRESSURE” as you frantically try to get to the curb across 4 lanes of traffic, oops, 4 bar, never mind. Or oil is drooling down the right side of the engine making a puddle under the right side of the engine. Oops, sending unit seal failed, again.
Took the car on a road trip the weekend after I bought it. Set cruise control to travel 75 at 70 zone. First we notice everyone is passing me and I joked with my wife 'everyone wants to race a Porsche'. She turned on her phone's GPS and it says I am doing 70... I checked with my phone later and another Garmin GPS unit and now I have a double din installed with GPS and all confirmed from 18 mph and over the car is off by 4 mph.
I have a 996.1 instrument cluster with 53K miles on it that I will be putting up on Ebay in a couple of weeks. It came out of my car when I replaced my 996.1 3.4L engine with a 997S engine and was no longer compatable. Let me know if you might to consider it.
