I had changed the alternator before this problem appeared because the old alternator bearing was making noise.

I'll mention that removing the throttle body and intake plenum was unnecessary when I replaced my y-cable.

Disconnect cable from end of the starter cable and break off the plastic housing so that you can thread the cable past the a/c compressor.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hey all. I've been having an intermittent no start issue where I would go to start the car and it would click once and nothing. I thought I'd write down my experience so that maybe this will help someone else in the future. The no start didn't happen all the time and in order to start the car when it did happen, I had to jump start it. It always started with a jump start. I first thought it was the battery and just replaced it with a new one. Then after a while it happened again. Luckily it only happened to me at home in the morning.
I had changed the alternator before this problem appeared because the old alternator bearing was making noise. So I had a new battery and new (not remanufactured) alternator and still had this problem. I also noticed that the voltage when the car was running was around 13.4 to 13.6. It never got higher than that, but I ignored that. Also, everytime I started the car, the starter seemed very labored.
After it happened again, I decided to do a parasitic draw test on the battery and there was none. Then after dealing with the random no start, luckily only ever at home I searched the forums more and decided the alternator/starter Y cable should be inspected. I took the alternator out and the cable on that end was fine. Then I pulled out the starter and the cable on that end was also fine. Then I noticed that the end of the cable where the jump start post is was loose! The nut had somehow come loose. I wish I would have checked that first. So, I had everything apart and decided to change the cable with a new one after reading that a perfectly good looking one could also be bad. I also got a new Bosch starter. After all was put back together, she started up and the starter sounded strong. Also my voltage on the dash volt meter is always just a hair over 14v no matter the load.
Its really easy to change that cable.
Remove Airbox.
Remove Drive belt.
Remove Throttle Body and Intake Plenum
Remove Alternator (Not sure if this has to be done, but its easy to remove so I did it)
Remove Starter (I did this because I was going to change it out and it was much easier to attached new cable with starter removed)
Disconnect alternator/starter Y cable from alternator and starter.
Disconnect cable from end of the starter cable and break off the plastic housing so that you can thread the cable past the a/c compressor.
When you get the new cable, heat up the plastic housing (I ran hot water from my instant hot water tap in my kitchen over it for a few seconds) to make the plastic less brittle and remove from cable without breaking it. Once you see how it is connected by inspecting the old one you broke off, it is very easy to understand how to remove it without breaking it.
Installation is reverse of removal.
There are random things you have to remove to gain access to other things, so remove them.
Hope this helps someone.
