I use the sub for bass and dial back almost all the bass from the factory speakers to keep them from distorting at higher sound levels.

I'm currently running the factory speakers and amp (non-Bose) with an aftermarket HU (a refurbished $79 JVC KD-X330BTS) and a 10" powered subwoofer using the high-power inputs tapped from the rear 2-way speakers.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

12 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

My new to me 2003 996 Cabriolet has all OEM stereo parts and is long overdue for a refresh. I'm completely gutting the system and installing all new after marker equipment - well I'm having an installer do it - beyond me skill level. As the title indicated this is an upgrade on a budget: Head Unit: Kenwood DNX 773s - nice unit with a ton of bells and whistles Front and rear cameras - Boyo VTL300CL (rear) Universal Camera (front) Sirius Cabling to mirror image my iPhone X - fantastic feature Front Speakers: Hertz ESK 163L.5 3-way 375 peak 150 continuous Rear Speakers: Hertz ESK 130.5 2-way 150 peak 75 continuous Amplifier: Hertz 4-channel 760 watts Sub: Kicker Comprt 8 in - built enclosure for pax side floor board Amplifier: Kicker CSX 300-1 Upgraded my subscriptions on Pandora and Spotify and cleaned up my iTunes library Might get a little creative with the amps by building some type of enclosures instead of just screwing them to the wall in the frunk I've been looking at some heads up display units online - reading reviews on the same item, it's fantastic and it's terrible and they all talking the same item. I will attempt to capture the install but I've been told from building the enclosures and the actual install will take two days and I need to go to work to pay for all of this stuff as I said, it was on a budget Wish me luck for a seamless install. 911STYL

POST 5Original post

Seriously, haha. Stereo upgrade on a budget for me = my iPhone and a new bluetooth speaker

POST 7Original post

To be fair to OP, $2,000 in the pro audio world is on a budget.

POST 8Original post

I was recommended this unit from a FB group: http://www.dension.com/automotive/pr...ateway-500s-bt Looks interesting enough.

Car audio is NOT "pro audio"...Apples to oranges...

POST 10Original post

A local audio shop wanted $10K to do a double-DIN head-unit, amp, and speaker install. This was their "budget" solution. Given the 996 soundstage, I wouldn't put more than OP's budget into the 996. You could spend half of that budget on DynaMat alone trying to make the 996 a decent place to listen to music. I'm currently running the factory speakers and amp (non-Bose) with an aftermarket HU (a refurbished $79 JVC KD-X330BTS) and a 10" powered subwoofer using the high-power inputs tapped from the rear 2-way speakers. I use the sub for bass and dial back almost all the bass from the factory speakers to keep them from distorting at higher sound levels. I already owned two of the Basslink II units, so I suppose technically my 996 audio system upgrade was 80 bucks (Cruchfield includes the wiring harness). It's decent enough for the music to sound OK, and loud enough to hear the music at freeway speeds. 90% of the time I'm streaming Pandora, so headunit features are a non-issue for me. Good luck, OP...

Why do you need a front camera? Doesn't your window work?
