I ended up using two of these going from the speaker outs to the plugs on the adapter harness instead.
Leading evidence: 'Use two of these going' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Using the banana style plugs you had led to a ton of alternator noise at the amps.

You have to use the line level inputs on the adapter.

I found this on 6 speed apparently you have to use some of both plugs.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

These finally gave me modern head unit sound and features that worked with the Bose amp/speakers with good sound quality.
Hi All,
I've worn out my googling skills trying to find out what head unit wiring harness to purchase. I have a 2002 w/ Bose that I want to replace JUST the head unit and I want to keep the Bose Amp and speakers. I only have this
connector the 70-1784
. However because I have the bose audio don't
I need the Metra 70-1787?
???
You would think that this would have been answered a million times on the boards, but I can't find a straight up for sure part number.
Thanks !!!!
Matt
My Corvette has four Bose amps one at each speaker, a control box and a separate receiver antenna module. Putting in an aftermarket head unit was a complete nightmare. Using the banana style plugs you had led to a ton of alternator noise at the amps. Apparently many Bose systems have this issue.

Matt,
Here's the people to help you with the right fit for your project.
This kit will allow you to upgrade your HU while keeping the Bose amp and speakers.

I am pretty certain that it isn't a Bose power amp. And replacing it, IME, is a key to getting the "most" (pun intended) out of the Bose speaker array.
That's great news for you!!! Less problematic than the 03' - 05' MOST based systems. My best advice is to avoid trying to find cheaper wire harnesses and contact CAI. They specialize in doing radio conversions on these cars. That CAI wire harness kit in the the link above should be all you need to upgrade your HU to a newer unit.
So to help out the next guy in this situation...
You have to use the line level inputs on the adapter. There are no pre amp outputs / inputs for the bose system.
The Metra
70-1784
plug connector is what you need for the speaker line level inputs and power
You have to swap the const on and acc on power wires in the Metra connector
You need
the Metra 70-1787
connector just for the red plug that tells the amplifier to power on.
IF you buy an alpine head unit you need to purchase a brake
micro bypass
because hooking up to the hand brake is a pain and it doesn't work right
The headunit plastic kit for the lower consul doesn't really fit right so you should buy a new cubby and faceplate surround from suncoast
Console Storage shelf (shelf986) $50
Lower AC Surround Trim (9965523390001C) $7.50
I'll post some pics at a later time. I don't feel like the head unit is properly mounted because it's sticking out farther than I would like.
