Suggestion

it does sound like an idle control valve/throttle body cleaning.......look inside and see it it is coked up

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Car drives normally until I stop. The idle starts at around 750 then gradually climbs to 1300 rpm. Stays there for about 1 minute, then gradually drifts back to 750-800 rpm. Slightly rough idle. I've tried this while coasting: clutch in, foot off gas pedal, same result. Floor carpet is not moving. BTW it's a 99 with the cable (not tight) rather than e gas. I'm thinking the ICV. Any ideas?

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Will do, an will post. I did clean and test it during the rebuild (about 12k miles ago), but that doesn't eliminate it as the problem.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Using my el cheapo OBD2 dongle, I got: P1315, P1317, P1318 AND P1319, with no CEL. Cleared, dumped a bottle of Techron in and filled up with brand name fuel. Seems to be helping, but will pull the ICV today and clean.

POST 6Original post

I have cleaned the ICV several times. Plan to soak it with carb cleaner (just the inside part), then take Q-tips and alcohol and scrub it. The little valve can be cycled with a 9V battery. Do that and make sure it cycles smoothly back and forth. Amazingly enough the control valve always has a black sooty coating, and when totally clean it is metallic shiny inside. Mine was gummed up enough that it was getting stuck. Cleaning it took care of that.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Finally got around to posting the fix: the (relatively new) oil filler cap was SLIGHTLY loose. Tightened, fixed.

POST 8Original post

Well good for you! That was an easy fix. Thanks for posting what you found to be the problem.
