Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I solved it by replacing the lower control arms.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 1 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi I have something similar to PSS10 on my car. When going over bumps and potholes i hear a boink from the front. Curious where this sound is coming from? Sounds like someone is hamering ontl the strut mounting points.

I inspected them and they look fine, what should I lool for? hmm. How do i inspect them?

POST 5Original post

I had a front-end clunk going over pavement cracks at slow speed. I solved it by replacing the lower control arms. The telling thing in my case was that the clunk went away when I applied a bit of brake. Since then, the shop that did the work has had other 996 customers with the same problem who they were able to fix in the same way. http://www.epscontrolarms.com/996-lower-control-arm

So was it the bushing in the control that was worn out?

Yes, but it isn't available separately. I used the same parts recommended by Schnauzer - fixed. Also a very easy DIY. GL

Got it. Maybe that what it is, I will inspect and see if I can find something. Hmm....i JUST did an alignment....TWICE (don't ask)...

I don't believe a visual inspection will disclose much. Concerning your alignment, replacement of those parts won't affect it. GL

POST 11Original post

Hard to diagnose this from a keyboard across the interweb... I have PSS10s in my C2, and had a clunk from the top mount, easily fixed by tightening the top nut. But that isn't to say yours is this (or any of the other poster's suggestions). In my opinion, the only way to figure this out is to put it up in the air on a lift and inspect all of the suspension parts, push, pull, tug, and pry until you find the culprit. Or take it to a shop and let them do it.
