Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I am pretty sure that it worked last time I moved it around several months ago.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

All, 2001 996 turbo. While driving home from work the other day the drivers seat started vibrating and scared the $**** out of me. I pulled over to see what it was and then it stopped. I am pretty sure I have 8 way adjustable seat (1-4way rocker sw (for lumber control), 1-6 way slide sw (for seat position), and 1-2way rocker switch (for the seat back). After playing with the 4 way switch it appears to do nothing as far as moving the seat in any direction. I am pretty sure that it worked last time I moved it around several months ago. Today, about 1/3 of the way to work it happened again and was constant until I got to work. I got to work where it continued for a bit after I turned the car off. While it was happening i put my left hand down at the back of the seat and I can feel a vibration there. Any ideas on where to start troubleshooting this issue? When I get home I will pull the seat fuse (hopefully it is just for the seat) until I can get this solved. Thanks for the help.

POST 2Original post

Isn't the four way switch is for the lumbar support?

Honestly I cant recall. Ill look in owners manual when I get home.

POST 4Original post

Haven't heard of many seat switch issues in the 996, but I had to replace every seat switch in my 928. And the 996s are starting to get long in the tooth, so it wouldn't surprise me if it was just a worn out switch

POST 5Original post

I had one of the wires wear out blowing fuses in my 996. Make sure the wires are all intact and not crimped up somewhere.

This is correct, i just looked in the owners manual to verify. Post corrected.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It is definitely something with the lumbar adjusters. Now when I sit in the car it applies pressure to something and causes one of the motors to run. If I am out of the car and press the button forward, up, or, down I get the same weird buzzing sound. If I press the button backwards, I do hear a click in the seat but no sound or movement. Something is kinked when pressure is applied to the seat causing power to go to the lumbar system. I am assuming that I am going to have to remove the seat and figure out what the scoop is? Until then, can I pull fuse E-3 and be done with this until I pull the seat out?
