Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm considering a flash to the ECU and wanted to hear any feedback from various owners who have used one of these regarding their experience, ease of install, and support you've received. Softronic Evolution Motorsports Vivid Racing All 3 are comparable in performance gains, with pricing much lower for the Vivid than others. The Evo Motorsports seems to require additional flashing system to implement the upgrade, whereas the others come with appropriate cables and leverage your laptop for the flash. Would appreciate any feedback. I'm not looking to do much other than a slight performance upgrade - this car will likely remain stock other than this upgrade.

I am scheduled to have my 00 C2 ECU flashed in mid-July at my local indy shop. I have FisterD cans and 200 Cell Cats. The shop will use an off the shelf tune, dyno the car, and tweak the tune. I will let you know why thoughts...

Evolution motorsports , Sam will help you through it

POST 4Original post

I'm very happy with my Softronic tune. I have posted my dyno graphs on another thread I started when I had it done. Here's a link to said thread: https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...-c4-today.html

You didn't ask, but I wouldn't be quick to put a tune on these 996s. There's not much gain to be had on these engines

Most of the ecu flashes I've had experience with also help with a few other things other than power - responsiveness, smoother, and improved fuel economies (minimal here too). I'm still debating on this, which is why i questioned the tuning options and impact to the engine's performance.

POST 7Original post

Yeah, I'm sure there can be some minimal gains, but I just never thought it was enough to bother, especially given the cost. For example, I can get an AFR tune on my wife's 2014 Audio 2.0 TFSI to bring the HP from 220 to 270 for $700. The Porsche 996 tunes are usually even more money for about 10HP. I honestly don't think I would ever notice 10HP. I could probably remove the spare tire and pick a smaller battery for that kind of gain. And my 996 purrs like a kitten and gets over 30mpg when driven really slowly on the highway, or gets 20-25 when I drive "normally," so again, I just didn't see the benefit in a tune on these cars. Other mods folks do on these 996s have similar outputs. Changing the headers, exhaust, intake, crank pulley - all seem to have minimal benefit. It's just not a very tunable car. Some folks put super chargers on them and make big gains, but even those mods are met with some risk. Generally the cost to do all these mods could end up costing close to what a 996TT would cost. Or maybe not quite that much, but the dollar payback would certainly offset the cost, as 996TTs have bottomed out on depreciation.

I have the same challenge with my BMW S52 engine - just not a lot of bang for the buck with any engine mods. I still wonder what if..... I'm new to the Porsche so want to explore options for basic mods that aren't going to ruin the car's out of the box feel. I've quickly become a Porsche fan after driving this around town for a couple weeks. If I can make a few minor improvements it may be worthwhile.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

by the way, I don't get anywhere near 30mpg hwy/20-25mpg city with my c4s - more like 26hwy/19city. I don't really drive that mildly though.

POST 10Original post

I'd actually wait to do a tune, you might find you want a louder exhaust or an IPD plenum or an under drive pulley etc. A tune is last on my list as the DME is quite adaptable to the mods mentioned above and if you did them then you might need another tune anyway.

POST 11Original post

I'm to the point where I'm starting to shop around for tunes as well. From what I can tell, EVOMS is better for relatively modded out cars. Once I get a tune, I'm definitely going to share my experience with it. Curious how much more my 3.6 n/a has to offer! I'm running CAI, 997 3.8 headers, IPD competition intake plenum, 82mm GT3 throttle body, and Gundo/Fister hacked mufflers. I'm really curious how the fine tuning works on a dyno once the basic tune goes in, if at all. Frankly, the car is fast enough as-is, but hey.
