I've read a few threads on bumper/front end swaps and never actually read anyone give feedback about running without ducts, changing ducts, or making modifications for original ducts.

I have read of some members using aftermarket bumpers and not having the correct ducting and that has caused over heating issues.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

so before I get flamed, I did a good amount of research on this. When I bought my 99 c2 it already had the 997 replica bumper on it. I didnt mind it so left it on the car. The issue I'm having is the radiator ducts dont line up (bumper comes out about 3-4" past where the factory 996 ducts terminate). I've read a few threads on bumper/front end swaps and never actually read anyone give feedback about running without ducts, changing ducts, or making modifications for original ducts. if anyone wishes to share their experience with 997 ducts mounting to 996 radiators, or other ways they've accomplished good airflow to the radiators with a 997 bumper, I'd really appreciate it.

POST 2Original post

Welcome! I have read of some members using aftermarket bumpers and not having the correct ducting and that has caused over heating issues. This was however only on the track, if you're having stable temperatures I wouldn't worry too much. However do monitor the temps and if they increase or you have issues then you'll need to take action.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

thank you, but the idea is to survive a track weekend. On the street, with my home brew duct work, it works ok for now but I'd like to get a proper duct set up on there.

Not having done any track time with my 996 myself but having read a fair bit about it cooling is very important. Then as your skill progresses (not sure of your driving ability/experience) other things need to be taken into account like oil starvation at high G cornering amongst other things. There is heaps of information on here about setting up a 996 for track work with some very experienced members on here who track their cars. I'd say if you're doing regular or semi regular track time you should get a proper bumper setup with the correct ducting, it really can't hurt to have a proper front cooling setup with the correct airflow.

POST 5Original post

It would depend on what your bumper is made from. If it's fiberglass/FRP it shouldn't be too difficult (if you've done any fiberglass work before) to mock up some extensions from the bumper to the stock A/C / Radiator ducts out of cardboard/foam core and then glass them in place to the bumper...If your bumper is Polyurethane, it's a whole different ballgame...

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
