If I was using Castrol (I'm on Mobil1 5W50), this is the oil I'll have to buy

Also we use the term 'Jap import' to describe cars that are imported from Japan (as you do), however from what I understand, the word 'Jap' is considered offensive in the States.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

A dealer down south has this '99 for sale with 'engine rebuild'. Naturally I was curious and asked about the 'rebuild'. They supplied the invoice from the garage as attached below.
It will be interesting to see how much the cost differs or not to our Stateside members. Also how much cheaper would it be to get an engine from RND or MBM********t, or send the engine either to the States or UK for straight repair.
Seemed the car had a scored bore. Here is the

for the car
Remember everything is in NZ dollar and the total would get GST (15%) added on top.
I would call that a repair instead. Only minimum new parts were used. The crank carrier was not even opened and no new main bearngs. Not a single new bolt! $300 machine work for both heads may be just cleaning and decking. It's not cheap at US$11,600. The engine oil price is insane.
That what I thought re (no) new parts hence looks like cheaper to exchange the core with one from the engine suppliers. USD300 for customs fees was a joke. Total work should be about USD13500 incl. taxes (71 cents to the dollar)!. Oil and spark plugs are expensive, I always wait for the sale season to stock up on Mobil 1. In 2010 the local OPC charged NZD28+tax for a liter of Castrol SLX.
I had to search what
crank carrier
was :-)
We're at the end of the world :-) The closest land mass is 3 hours away by planes (Australia) - life is simple here but we pay through the nose for anything that isn't manufactured locally. Even locally made goods are expensive due to wages (high std of living). At least no one wants to come here and blow stuff up :-)

Except the high std of living, sounds like paradise to me! It's one of my dream countries to visit one day. I heard the seafood there is out of this world. I love abalone and oysters
Remember, they are expensive too :-)

. Crayfish is awesome. Almost every other person will have 'fush and chups' for dinner on Friday night
It's a good place to call home. The only real problem is with being at the end of the world.
You have to come and visit NZ one of these days (maybe after you finish rebuilding that engine). Just remember to drive on the left.
People import all sorts of cars from Japan, including mine. Although it originally came from the UK after being delivered in Denmark (previously a common scheme by the Brits to avoid some sort of tax). Apparently the owner then imported it to Japan.
And their names too, some examples -

Wingroad
,

It's ****e being in NZ mate, especially if the government wants to clip the ticket in everything e.g. GST on private imports.
Hi 318touring,
I am about to bring my car to NZ from the UK. It is coming up to the time to do the clutch and i have 2 choices really. Do it early at an indy here in london as no space and tools. Or buy the parts vat(gst) free and send them to the NZ and do the work myself. I looked in into a few indys in auckland but they are alot more pricey then here in london. I ve been trying to work out if customs will hit me with gst on the parts(posted seperate to the car) as the car is coming in gst free as i ve owned it long enough in the uk.
I have an Aussie training here with me now. He's from Queensland. This is his 3rd month of working alongside me in the last 8 years .. I do quite a few Aussie engines, but it was time to train someone how to work with these engines locally there.
Jake, it seems that the demand is low enough making the investment less worthwhile for garages in NZ. Owners usually tend to either send their engines to you or the UK. Others would get their engines 'rebuild' locally as seen in my original post.
I'm surprised that Auckland is more expensive than London? Maybe the recent upsurge of house prices forcing them to charge a lot more :-)
Anyway can't you just put the parts among your personal effects? If sent separately Customs will charge GST and processing fee if it's worth more than $400.
