Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.

0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.

Suggestion

You can use your phone video to track, which is what I do when I cannot easily see something that hidden.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am new to the Porsche world. Can anyone point me to what this leak might be coming from?

POST 2Original post

Passenger side back of motor? Does the color of the liquid match the color of the motor oil or the power steering fluid? Any detail on the color would help.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It is in the passenger side. I included a picture below in case you wanted to see above where the oil was visible. I also included the color in a towel. Happy to provide any other details needed. Thanks

POST 5Original post

You are going to want to trace that oil from the visible location all the way to the source. You can use your phone video to track, which is what I do when I cannot easily see something that hidden.

POST 6Original post

As with almost all cars, clean it up with some degreaser and monitor.

POST 7Original post

It would also help to tell us the model of the car. 3.4L Variocam vs. 3.6L Variocam+ have some very unique leak points.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I couldn't get a video, but it does not appear to trace up from that point. The metal looks dry on all 4 sides. Is this some sort of a drain hole? It only leaks 1 or 2 drops, and only after it is driven. It is a 2004 Porsche 911 Carrera 2 Cabriolet. I think it is a 3.6L, but I am not familiar with Variocam. What is that, and I can research. Thanks everyone!

POST 9Original post

That is part of the valve cover. The plug is a permanent plug used to cover an access/machining hole during manufacturing of the valve cover. The hole is the end of a pipe where oil is returned from the head to the block by the action of the scavenge pump. If you are absolutely sure that the oil is not coming from above, then you need to have the plug replaced and resealed. However, that plug rarely ever leaks.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks everyone. I am going to borrow my buddy's ramp and try to get further under and peek around. I will share pic/video's if I find anything more. Thanks again!
