Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

All, I am getting ready to install the IMS in the engine and I realized that I have never seen this done to an engine with the heads off. Do I need to worry about that? I just want to be sure before I go hammering on this thing. I have the crank locked. Just want to be absolutely certain it isn't a problem.

POST 2Original post

If you freeze the bearing and heat the shaft slightly with a heat gun, there isn't much pounding.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ok that makes sense on both counts. Would you just replace those case bolts if you were me?

Porsche has updated the case bolts. You are supposed to replace the 2 bolts on the underside of the case near the IMS area as well as the 2 lower bolts that are hidden by the bell housing. The original bolts are a regular hex head and the update is a Torx. The updated bolts have a sealant on them to prevent leakage. If you loosen them they should be replaced. I also see no benefit to loosening the case bolts as the bolts just hold the case together. The intermediate shaft is what the bearing sits in and the case does not clamp around that shaft in any way.

POST 6Original post

They are just MEC bolts ? Green loctite would be good enough if yo do not hve the 'upgaded' bolts.?

POST 7Original post

How far is the engine assembled? Are the heads the only thing thats removed?

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Both heads are off, other than that everything is still on.
