The horn (different wires) works fine, and I did disconnect the battery for over and hour before doing the swap.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just installed a new 340mm Raid race steering wheel, and now the airbag light and airbag malfunction message appears. During the install, the instructions indicate cutting the OEM airbag connector off the existing wires, and splicing the new style connector to the wires. Unfortunately the wire colors don't match up, and there was no indication in the instructions as to what wire connects to what wire, so I had a 50% chance of getting it right. Does my airbag light and message simply indicate I have those wires reversed, or is there something else I need to address. The horn (different wires) works fine, and I did disconnect the battery for over and hour before doing the swap. My inclination is to just swap the wires to the reversed positions? Thoughts?

POST 2Original post

I would try reversing the connections. What's the worst that could happen?

Thanks for the image, I was already worried enough about that.

POST 4Original post

I was in two minds about posting it, but well you know, I have poor self control. Pull battery, switch lead round, reconnect battery and then switch on ignition from outside car.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Montychristo, no worries, I know it was in fun. I did turn on the ignition after the first install from outside the car, will do the same this time.

POST 6Original post

Monty is that a real photo?? Holy crap, was it a Takata airbag or a shotgun? I work for a competitor and have never seen that picture.
