Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a 2002 996 C2 cab. Both top tension cables went limp. Started by doing the passenger side. Ended up being the piece that holds the spring side snapped at the rivet. Riveted it back on. 2 issues: 1. Can't get the spring to stay attached to the piece. 2. The top won't recognize that it's closed (won't put up the rear windows and the front latch keeps opening and closing). While I was working on this, yesterday, I had the top ~ 1/2 way open. After about an hour or so, it would almost go to a full open position. It's never done that. It is a fully automated top and will open fully but not recognize being closed. Any and all thoughts/ideas greatly appreciated.

POST 2Original post

Was the part that you riveted back on a small roller, almost like a washer with a lip that the rivet goes through and that the spring clips on to? I had to dremel the old rivet out of the roller on mine.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yeah, the part that broke is the thing that looks like a bushing with a washer that's integrated. Mine snapped off completely so I drilled out the old rivet and installed a new one. It seems like the hook doesn't want to stay on as there still is no tension.

POST 4Original post

Maybe the cable is binding inside of the edge of the top. The cable is still attached at the anchor point towards the back of the top? I think some have had the cable disconnect from the mount eyelet. Here is a link on this: http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=103442 that might be helpful.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm having to drill out the riveted mounts and crimp the eyelets a little. It's a combo there. I was able to activate the micro switch at the front latch with a flathead screwdriver. Now I need to see why that worked. For everyone, in a normal situation, you have to mount the cable on the top aluminum piece before installing it. A total pita, but that is how it was designed.
