Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Run afe' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check k&n pictures and sales info' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

$50 discount is being offered on Pelican for the aFe Cold Air Intake. Regular price is $269.
Anyone have an opinion? Good? Bad? Worth the $?
My car already has a custom exhaust and custom ECU tune.
aFe used to be one of the go-to aftermarket ones in the E46 world. Seemed decent and after a bunch of reading it seemed like the best value for the money, but I ended up getting a deal on a BMW Performance (OEM) intake.
I'm not sure how useful CAI is for 996 though, based on what I've read from some other members. ^^
At least for the K&N, you have a couple issues - one, possible oil ingestion onto the MAF. Careful cleaning and light oiling of the filter may help, but frankly having read enough stories of fouled MAFs from other people, I avoided it. Secondly, while some CAIs use the stock snorkel to try and draw air from the outside, the vast majority/all of them draw in hot air from the engine bay too... thus kind of negating the effect. Lastly, they're very exposed to water intrusion. Washing the car, getting caught in the rain... expect a fair amount of water to get on the filter.
The water intrusion is the main reason I don't want mine anymore - my car gets driven when I feel like driving it, which often means in the rain.
That being said, I did notice a significantly better exhaust note when I had the CAI on, and with that the car definitely FEELS a bit more peppy. I don't think it actually increases the HP, but the extra noise sure makes you feel a lot faster.
I cant tell what that stuff is for, I dont think it looks like it would work well. I know the k&n does good sealing for the hot air and none of the others ive seen will do that. The k&n has a long inlet tube for better air velocity which none others have, The most complaints ive seen is you have to assemble it and nobody wants to do the work
And ive had k&ns on every car ive owned since the 80s and never any oil problem. And the stock air in goes right into the k&n air cavity. Cant see any complaint there. And the k&n gives a water screen to prevent the water from wetting the filter.
maybe check the k&n pictures and sales info on their site.
Like I said, I have my K&N for sale, so I'm intimately familiar with the design. Anyone who wants to try it out is welcome to purchase it for a significant discount.
I have a K&N and Fister exhaust....OMG the resonance frequencies it goes through third on the highway are incredible. I can't say I drive my car too much in the rain.
