I replaced my side markers and changed them to the clear ones yesterday...first mod.

Although some would wince thinking of buying a product out of Taiwan, but I've replaced two sets of headlight enclosures for both of my Volvos and the first set has outlasted the OEM version.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Guys, I'm in need of massive help. Trying to install the spyder tails I purchased finally....on my 2001 911.....having massive issues with these and really close to flipping out. I have been trying to figure the correct way to or the bulbs/harness in the new one and I am getting confused with all of the results. Has anyone installed these and can help me? Keeps saying I keep 2 of my previous bulbs and don't use the rest. Meanwhile, when I did exactly as followed, and turned the lights on, I got no light, but I did get brake and turn signals. In need of massive help guys.
Does this mean you're installing LEDs?
If you get the polarity wrong on the running lights on many of the aftermarket LED tails, you'll blow the fuse - and you'll start to lose your mind because you won't realize you blew the fuse.
Disconnect the wiring, check the fuses, and then start reconnecting.
As an aside - they sell fuses now that light up when they're blown. Best damn invention ever.
Sounds like the new lights don't have resistor packs. If the resistance is wrong (too low, in the case of most LEDs), you'll get the ABS/PSM failure idiot lights.
Here's a comment from Renntech about someone else using those lights:
"FWIW I had the Spyder LED's, got em from Amazon (great return policy) they were not plug n play, they reused my factory harness, and they needed a resistor. They did fit well. I kept gettng the readed ABS & PSM light however. I resturned em to Amazon and ordered the Dectane 997 style lights from Evolution Motorsports, had em in less than a week. Not only do the Dectanes fit great, they have their own wiring harness with a resistor, they are truly plug n play. They are more expensive than the Spyders, but I did not have to reuse my factory harness or buy another one, and I did not have to install my own resistor."
Another comment from the same thread with a better explanation of the polarity issue I mentioned earlier:
I bought my Spyder rear LED lights from Amazon for $299.
I also blew a 7.5A fuse on connecting the small side marker lights.
When I first installed them I left them unconnected, and everything seemed to work fine.( following the hint of several forums members )
After a few days I couldn't leave well enough alone, and tried to see what happened - hyperflash plus blown fuse.
Tonight I worked out what was wrong: if you look very carefully you will see this small connector is color coded - there is a white mark on the side for the white wire and a red one for the corresponding red cable on the harness. The plug can connect either way so you will have a 50% chance of inserting it the wrong way!
After connecting it correctly ( and a new fuse ;-) everything now works perfectly - all wires plugged in and no hyperflashing.
The Spyder lights already have a built in resistor in the housing.
A four line instruction manual would have saved a lot of trouble!
I really love the new look - and they quality is as good as OEM.
If you do enough reading in the forum you'll find that Spyder is at or near the bottom of the preferred list for LED tail lights. Dectane (Depo) get high marks. I've had Dectane on both 997 and 996 and never had a problem.
The Dectane-style lights were the set I purchased, and there was a burly resistor pack built into the enclosure for each light. OP, if you don't see a resistor pack wired inline with the LEDs, you're probably going to continue to have the ABS/PSM warnings. You may be able to google up some DIY resistor info - it's not rocket science, just a resistor inline with each light - but it's a lot less hassle when the resistor packs are integrated.
If you're handy with a multimeter, you can probably deal with this yourself with ten bucks worth of stuff from Radio Shack.
I was also looking at led tail ligjts, but was hesitant. I have read many bad experiences withthe spyder lights, and i don't want the 997 style dectane. Cant find a 996 style from dectane
These are the ones I bought from FVD Brombacher. Truly plug and play and took less than 5 minutes to install both. Extremely happy.

I am going to take off the lights and return to Amazon. I don't like faulty lights and I don't feel like doing resistors and all that crap. Hopefully Amazon return is good to em
I bought these (probably rebadged spyder) lights on Amazon
Redlines Red Clear LED Tail Lights for Porsche Carrera 996 99-04 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002UCYRPU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_007UxbB4GBJNA
They were plug and play and look much more period correct and looks less poseur than the 997.2 style lights
Causes abs/PSM. I don't got time to mess with soldering resistors and stuff like that in with newborn right now. I already boxed them up and dropped to ups, and Amazon already refunded me. They looked nice but whatever. I went with depo 997 look smoked. Not as smoked as what I just took off, but beggars can't be choosers

It's been documented several times on the forums that the Spyder taillights require resistors and also has a polarity issue with one of the connections one needs to be aware of. Nothing new here.
J, You made a smart decision going with the company Depo. Although some would wince thinking of buying a product out of Taiwan, but I've replaced two sets of headlight enclosures for both of my Volvos and the first set has outlasted the OEM version. Volvo uses Valeo out of France, but both OEM headlight enclosures started deteriorating within 3 years. The Depo version (which looks and performs like the OEM) has now made it four years and still looks clear and new.
I will Have these Saturday by end of day so I'll throw them
Right on....still need to make a decision as to spending 3k on headlights, really really hunt for a camaro SS, or upgrade my s550
Sounds great! Let us know how it works out, ok? Also, do what you feel is right regarding the replacement of the front light enclosures. But I'd advise you to keep the OEM originals for the next owner. I'm kind of a stock kind of guy. I'm okay with well-made aftermarket solutions, but I prefer the original look. Unfortunately, there are no aftermarket front headlight enclosures for the Mk2 996 that are designed to match the OEM look and performance of the Litronics.
Alpine, have you seen the current list price from Porsche for the OEM Mk2 HID headlight enclosures? It used to be about $2000 each and now I looked and the price was $2700 for ONE enclosure. Ouch!
Yeah Porsche is one of the few car companies that can keep raising parts prices on one of their most depreciating models, more so than even newer cars. This really makes me mad
The most prudent thing for someone wanting MK2 units if damaged is to buy used. If you want to upgrade existing mk2 lights, hitting up someone like ParticleWave would be the way to go to customize it and upgrade the projectors at the same time. That would be my reco...
No sh*t. I can walk into the Chevy dealership and pick up a sensor for an engine that has been out of production for 19 years and pay $20 for it...That same sensor in a "Porsche Classics" box would cost $200.
It also really grinds my gears that Porsche doesn't make any effort to provide short blocks - or even just engine cases - for the 996. "You own a Classic; we are dedicated to support it" - unless you need an engine.
I've been trying to warn the OP off of the "LED" headlights, but when you want something...
A quick Google search should bring up some further details I've posted on another site regarding their flimsy construction and inferior materials, but a person must be willing to do the searching and reading. I think OP may be a bit too excited about the car and mods to go that far.
My dual projector headlights
Nine8Six was supposedly making another run of the projectors, but he has disappeared again. I can't build headlights without projectors, so...
I'll probably be banned after this post, lol.
Is that you Particle Wave?
There are other projector options as the only thing you're getting with Nine8Six is the nice and customized projector shrouds. It doesn't really do anything for functionality but does have a cool style(I have one of his projector setups btw). There are many improved projectors out there that i can recommend if to those interested in doing it themselves.
Here's a MK2 modded lights:
Not over excited about the car lol. I've had it over 3 years now so not like I just started modding it...but you like what u like, whether style or performance, u like what u like. My car never sees rain, or dark for that matter. Like I said before, I've had this car 3 years, maybe used the headlights one time....I appreciate ur input, and I have don my research. Again not sure if I'm going to drop 3k on headlights. Someone else posted about tinting my current ones. I may not do anything at all. Just trying to do more research before I do anything really
My mistake...I apologize if I came across as an azz, I just really despise those headlights.
Below is a picture of a set that I installed a set of Nine8Six's projectors into for a Boxster owner. To be fair, I liked them at one point...then I disassembled that set to repair burnt out LEDs and install the projectors. I was not impressed.
You are absolutely correct.
His are very nice...CNC aluminum construction, laser scripting, color options...but there are alternatives that also look quite nice once installed.
That's it for me as I'm sure the mods will give me the axe. I never profited and just enjoy helping.
Best of luck OP!
Lol. I got the fabspeed cat bypass Thursday in mail. Hoping to have time tomorrow afternoon to install. Have to go for Sunday morning drive in the Jaguar early first, then see how the newborn is acting for the day, if alllllll goes well, I will put the pipes on. I gotta change her oil too. I took videos for everyone today, to let u hear how it sounds currently with fabspeed headers, super cup exhaust and cold air intake, and then gonna take more videos of how it sounds after cat bypass is added.
I replaced my side markers and changed them to the clear ones yesterday...first mod. I'm working my way around the car and will replace the tail lights with either Dectane or Depo. My question is with the brake lights...yes lights (plural). I have the aero package and so I have two brake lights...stupid I think.. What options exist for me to upgrade the brake lights to LED as well?
Do you have LED tail lights too? And if so, did the addition of spoiler brake lights cause and errors. I think others have reported that they had to add resistors after adding the spoiler lights.
I guess ... Certainly on my non-aero car both are the same.
Nope, not yet. If I decide to go that route I'll give the Spyders a try, I prefer the design. But for now I'm happy with the ones I have; I went with the LED third brake lights purely because they were cheaper than OEM.
They did come with resistors, although I haven't needed to use them. But I've kept them in case I do at a later date - install looks pretty simple.
It looks kinda like yours though
