Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I thought you had changed the internal mirror wiring.
Leading evidence: 'Replace internal mirror wiring' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). I used my smallest short arm HEX key set tool to remove the small screws.

I managed to change the old inside workings with connector from the old mirror and put it in the one I bought.

Easy enough DIY job but intricate time consuming changing the insides.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

How difficult is it for me to change the passenger side rear view mirror on my 99 996? Instruction video or read would be helpful if someone could help me out. You guessed it, I caught the mirror on the garage entrance when reversing out and broke the glass and the actual plastic surround. Thanks in advance?
BTW I got a nice replacement from ebay for $60. Slight scrape on it but hardly noticeable until pointed out.
Remove the triangular interior trim piece by pulling it up and away. From there you will see probably 2 out of the 3 screws that hold the mirror in place. The third one you have to find by locating in under the seal, just carefully pull back the seal and you will find it. I think you need to "finish" the removal by undoing the wiring connector in the mirror. The mirror is already gone so it should be easy to see how to do that.
If you look at the parts diagram it will provide some clues:

Sorry, can't find a video or tech article. Actually, I didn't look.....it's pretty simple.
Hey Joe I had already completed the job before you posted but thanks anyway. It went the same way as you described. One problem was the electrical connector of the one I bought had 5 pins on it. The old one had 10. I bought a 2002 and mine is a 99 year. I managed to change the old inside workings with connector from the old mirror and put it in the one I bought. Now it works great. Easy enough DIY job but intricate time consuming changing the insides.
I didn't change any wiring. I removed the glass first by gently levering away with plastic spatula. Then remove two wires from back of the glass. Then you see 3 tiny screws deep down holding the assembly. Remove those and you take the assembly away from the original mirror. The bottom plastic unclips and gives room to remove the whole assembly from the original mirror. Do the same on the other mirror and change the whole assembly. The hard part is getting the tiny screws back in place deep down in the assembly. Those screws hold the assembly to the replacement. The mirror simply clips or pushes back in place after attaching the two wire spade clips. Then replace the white plug and replace the triangular covering on the inside of the door at the top. Job done. I used my smallest short arm HEX key set tool to remove the small screws. I wish I had the long arm HEX key set to easily reach the screws but managed with what I had. Have fun.
Ohh right! I thought you had changed the internal mirror wiring.
I too struggled to find instructions and decided to wing it. That write up is spot on good work
