Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. I'm running back in to the dealer on Monday and staying with the car while it's in the shop for the day.

Local Porsche dealer did the PPI, they confirmed the check engine light was a misfire and recommended could and plugs all around.

May be equally as important do I screw anything up by changing intake and exhaust?

I'll let you know- I don't think Evap purge change and vacuum leak test were done yet (don't know that they weren't-- just don't remember that being stated.)

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

[First-- thanks to Slakker for helping me find the right place for the questions.]
First Porsche, wasn't even out of dealership parkinglot and I was already looking online at ways to customize it.
Think I have a handle on what was in the x51 package. Didn't see any mention on airflow, and the filter case looks similar to stock. My question is, adding a conical filter, will I still see the increase in HP and throater sound? Has the x-51 package tapped out the increase in performance and sound? May be equally as important do I screw anything up by changing intake and exhaust?
Incidentally, the car threw an engine light on day two of ownership. (Dealer has been great trying to make it right, that's not the issue). Feels like a misfire, but they have already changed plugs and coils, as well as well mass air flow sensor. I'm now 2 more hours in on the engine and the light came back, it rode really rough for a while, and goes from sounding fine to sounding again like a its missing. Shop is looking into it, but they seem like they are struggling to find the problem. Any thoughts?
Thanks guys
Save your money and be glad you got the x-51. The only noticeable increase you'll see is if you don't live in Cali and you can do high flow cats.
Info on the car? Be interested if it was one of the problem ones on here earlier that was unloaded.
Usually misfire issue gets exponentially more difficult to diagnose after coils, spark pkugs, MAF, evap purge valve change and vacuum leak test. Do you know if it's just a specific cylinder or almost all cylinders? I assume no other error codes?
I just randomly looked in that forum for the very first time and saw your 996 post.
As stated, cats is the best place to get the HP increase depending on your state. OK has no inspection requirement so incidentally my car is missing it's cats at the moment. The bungs for the post O2 sensors have done a great job of preventing any CEL so far.
Muffler, specifically Fister mod, is the best place to upgrade your sound.
Also, FYI, Ahsai is the best online technical troubleshooter for 996's in the world! Bold statement I know, but bottom line is you are lucky to have him in your thread.

Local Porsche dealer did the PPI, they confirmed the check engine light was a misfire and recommended could and plugs all around. No other error codes were given. Dealer I purchased from just did all of them prior to the PPI, and thought after the fact one of the coils was bad when they put it in. ("Sometimes you get a bad one", I think was the quote)
To the post requesting details on the car:
Northern Nj titled, artic grey, 58,000ish miles. Previous owner took it back the same independent dealer they purchased it from originally and upgraded to a newer vehicle.
Thanks everyone for the help. Been a great source of info so far.
Check engine Light just went out???
The full timeline-
-light goes on durin PPI
-MAF gets replaced after they couldn't find a bad plug or coil
-second drive into ownership engine wants to stall out and rides rough.
-after pulling over and turning it off and on again, light is on, engine sounds like a misfire but otherwise seems ok
-another 100 miles till I get it home, and suddenly the light goes out and sounds fine........
Ofcourse! It's scheduled to go back in minday morning for the shop Forman to look it over.
Most CEL instances with these cars are dumb things.. loose gas cap, bad MAF, aging O2 sensor, maybe an aging cat. The real stuff never gives a CEL, the engine usually blows up and when it arrives here there's no CEL.
Buy a Durametric kit and diagnose it yourself. Its a valuable tool that will save you a ton of money over time, and convenience.

Didn't return the car. Let the dealer make good on the problem.
Codes showed misfire bank 1, cylinder 1/2/3.
Plugs and coils, MAS replaced-- didn't fix the issue.
Scoping the cylinders revealed fouled fuel injector in cylinder 1.
900 miles later no CEL.
