My understanding is that the G50 axle flanges run $500 used.

Only problem I have is that its designed to receive the Transmission stub flanges that secure themselves with central screws and the factory stub flanges use a clip type securement.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello, I received a differential I want to try out. The differential lines up nicely and fits well inside the transmission. Only problem I have is that its designed to receive the Transmission stub flanges that secure themselves with central screws and the factory stub flanges use a clip type securement. What have other done in this case? I don't know if I should machine the flanges or buy flanges with holes for screws. I don't even know where to buy them. Any help would be appreciated. The following shows pictures of what I mean. The rusty part is the transmission stub flange. My 99 996 comes with a clip type securement. This is the type of flange my car came with. My LSD does not accept this type of flange. It accepts the screw type. These flanges have holes in the center for screws They are from previous generation 911s (993,964 etc.) Im wondering if I can buy these flanges that will fit my LSD or machine my current flanges. What do you recommend?

POST 2Original post

Is this the axle flange? If so, you either need to find a used set of G50 axle flanges or get yours machined to match. My understanding is that the G50 axle flanges run $500 used. California Motorsports, in AZ (?,lol) offered to machine mine for $250. They are a really good resource as is Gbox in Colorado. What LSD is it and what do you know about it?

Its an OBX TBD. I Know What People ar Going to say but we rebuilt it with upgraded washers and bolts and reassembled to the correct torque specs. It seams I won't be installing it in my car anymore though since I have the chance to get a quality TBD. I still am curious to see how the rebuilt OBX LSD holds up on a 996 carrera though. Seams for the horsepower our cars have it could handle it considering there are guys with 700 hp Japanese cars that rebuild and run them on drags strips etc.

POST 4Original post

I've got a Quiafe TBD in my track car and I definitely think it helps mid to late corner. But the guys I've talked to that have an OS Giken Super Lock say the affect on braking is phenomenal. And since trail braking is where the magic is in these cars I'm hoping to upgrade sometime next year.

If you aren't going to use it, do you want to sell the OBX LSD?

POST 6Original post

This may or may not help, but my 2003 C4S has the screw type output shaft flanges. I'm not sure if they'd be compatible but they definitely secure with a screw vs. clip (assuming my transmission is completely stock, and I have no reason to think it isn't) Cheers Charlie

POST 7Original post

You probably need to order G50 stubs. Call Gbox Here's some notes from my recent LSD install of an OS Giken. Have no ideas about OBX - will be interesting to see The arrow is pointing to the piece of cast that needed to be grind down for the new LSD to fit. OS Giken versus Stock Open Differential. Its shocking how easily the stock differential turns by hand. Very little force. New Short Hub versus Old - note the shorter height and difference in the mounting bolt holes. The new setup requires a 40mm Allen head while the stock unit has a small center cylinder in the differential that fits into the old stub hub on the right. New Short Hub vs Old - Note the difference in the center mounting bolt holes.

Do you want to sell your stock LSD?

My stock differential is open, non-LSD. I'd sell it
