I replaced both horns with OEM so I have two yrs of warranty coverage.

As with my previous Cayenne, I changed the horns 5 times in four years due to exposure to moisture.

I debated about this when I changed mine but I ended up replacing only 1 due to time constraints of waiting for another horn to arrive in the mail.

My mechanic has replaced these without removing anything on my 04 C2.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hey All,
The other day the bass note of my horn died, leaving the high pitch note functioning.
The two horn notes no longer work in sync, one seems to have failed.
Has this happened to anyone? Is there a fix or do I need a new horn altogether?
Lastly, where is the horn located?
Any and all help would be appreciated.
Thanks!
Just did this on my 2004. Good video on YouTube for pulling bumper and cooling shroud. Easy job but just take your time. I replaced both horns with OEM so I have two yrs of warranty coverage. Local Porsche dealership recommended I slightly rotate horns away from the front to prevent water ingestion. I did and can't tell any difference in sound. However, I can't hear my wife when she's speaking to me either so I'm not sure that's a good point. LOL
To replace the horn(s) you have to remove the front bumper cover, so you might consider replacing both horns at the same time.
I debated about this when I changed mine but I ended up replacing only 1 due to time constraints of waiting for another horn to arrive in the mail.
And you have the opportunity to clean your radiators and A/C condensers as well.
As well as YouTube videos, you can check the Pelican Parts website for a bumper removal tutorial.
First time the removal took about an hour and 1/2, but after having to remove it a total of three times over the course of two years it became a 30 minute project including jacking up the front end and removing wheels and fender liners.
There are great DYI videos on Youtube for removing the 996 front bumper cover. I have lost the hi tone horn in my 99 C2. I will remove the cover, plastic air shrouds so I can get to the horns but also to thoroughly clean the radiators. The horns are very inexpensive from Pelican Parts. I will also try my hand at a bumper cover respray so I can plug the holes in the license plate frame mounting area (NY state requires front plates) I will then try the tow ring off center mounted front plate hardware or take my chances with a beautiful, unmolested front bumper!
As has been suggested here, I would definitely redirect the horn opening to a position other that forward. As with my previous Cayenne, I changed the horns 5 times in four years due to exposure to moisture.

My high pitch horn has just gone out for the 3rd time in 2 years. My mechanic has replaced these without removing anything on my 04 C2. He's able to get his small hands in there. May be worth a try.
thanks for that, I just had my '01 resprayed flat white and would prefer not to take the bumper cover off, but if I have to then I guess I have no choice.
Thanks,
I just got a flat paint job on my '01 and before that I had taken off the bumper quite a few times (to clean the radiators etc.).
Great advice, I actually cancelled my order from suncoast parts ($32.00 for the horn + $13.00 shipping) and bought both horns from Pelican parts for $29.99 shipped! Not a bad bargain at all. Goes to show how overpriced suncoast is.
looks good!
We need front plates here in NJ also. my car was previously a Florida car and had no holes in the bumper.
I highly recommend buying the platypus tow hook plate holder. It retails for $80, but you can probably find it cheaper if you look hard enough. Make sure you tell them it's for a 911, the standard stud they give you is way too long and sticks out. But the 911 stud is a perfect fit with almost no gap whatsoever. Definitely a good option if you're going to plug up them holes!
A top-notch towhook plate mount is with US Millworks. Excellent engineering and has a quick-release option. I had one for my M3 and just ordered one for my 996. A bit more expensive but worth it imho, having struggled with 3 other brands that were craptastic landfill in the end.
