Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

32 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I want to pull it and add a cubby. Is there a specific cubby or are they all the same? I see them on eBay but they say 'lower cubby'

POST 2Original post

There is an upper and lower version. Check out suncoast. http://www.suncoastparts.com/product..._Code=996intup

POST 3Original post

http://www.suncoastparts.com/product...Code=POTE996IN The lower is closest to the center console carrier. The upper sits above it. My car had an XM unit in the upper slot, and I ordered from Suncoast. Perfect fit.

Also planning to do this. Thanks for the link.

POST 6Original post

FYI, removal of the CD tray is simple. Just pull it straight out. No screws, glue, or anything.

POST 7Original post

Highly recommend this mod; you won't miss the cd tray.

Frisbee91 - is that the case for all configurations? - i am having a heck of a time taking it out so my layout is head unit on top, then the cd storage, then the temp unit, similar to the layout pictured in this thread obviously, there is nothing to hold on to so i open the top drawer and pulled...nothing top and bottom...nothing thinking perhaps there is a locking mechanism, i opened all four...nothing when i say nothing, i am pulling 1, both or all four drawers (from the side) and there is zero movement...so not even as if it were friction fit and moving a tiny bit but stuck - it feels as if something is engaged and i am not unlocking it i know that differs from what you said...so i am stumped - is there some tip or trick i am missing when i say i am pulling, i mean really pulling hard (would break anything flimsier) help!

POST 9Original post

Strange. Mine pulled right out. Yours may be screwed in since it is moved up.

POST 10Original post

Mine was in the same spot on both my '99 and my '02. Both pulled right out. So easy, it wasn't even a one beer job to swap out the CD holder for the cubby. So easy, a caveman could do it.

POST 11Original post

Should pop right out. Pop out trays 2 and 3, grab securely, tug. If that fails, tug harder.

POST 13Original post

Quotes source post: 13531188

Yep, that will make it "pop out" alright if she does it long enough.

POST 14Original post

I thought the CD storage was useless and replace it with a Scan gauge II DSC00855.jpg

POST 15Original post

You guys and your newfangled CD trays. My '01 996TT has a cassette tape holder, I kid you not.

POST 16Original post

I ordered the wrong one for some reason. I musta clicked lower when I needed upper. I can't call to return until Monday. If any board member wants to buy mine, let me know u can pay what I paid plus shipping to u. I have no patience so I paid for 2nd day so I lose in this deal. Sun coast will make me lose 25% on the return so I really lose. Someone PM Me if you want it!

POST 17Original post

^^that sucks doesn't it. Especially, when you start to install and realize your mistake. ouch!

POST 18Original post

Quotes source post: 13541810

Sure does. so now it's just empty as I ordered the correct part. Makes me highly aggravated

POST 19Original post

Wait, those trays are just STORAGE? And here I thought my CD player was broken.

POST 20Original post

Quotes source post: 13541870

Bwahahahaha! You thought some unique CD changer, huh! Ha!

POST 21Original post

I thought the same thing, why the heck does this car need two CD changers, LOL took me about a week.

POST 22Original post

+1 on Suncoast - absolute plug and play - came super quickly

POST 23Original post

Literally a 10-second swap. The last five seconds were just marveling at how easy it was.

POST 24Original post

I will say that my experience on getting it out was different than the folks above i ejected various of the trays and yanked hard (almost hard enough to break the trays) and nothing instead, i popped the trim off on either side (simple - pull straight out from the mounting surface - front hooks on and so go forward from there) once those trim pieces were off i had to push the unit down (or up i can't remember) in the front and then pull - it came it - if you look closely (i have pics if anyone wants) inside there are retainer clips they are not locked in but are pressure only other than that, i agree...unit pops out, new one pops in - very simple and a great upgrade (in my opinion)

POST 25Original post

Mine came out literally in 2 seconds. Then I tried putting new one in then realized I ordered wrong part. Stupid me. Now I wait for the correct part.

Heh. Lucky. My Boxster came with a 6-cassette changer like Carsly's Turbo.

POST 27Original post

Anybody want to buy my LOWER I bought by accident? Rather sell here than lose 25% on sun coast return. Anyone?

POST 28Original post

Quotes source post: 13547505

Ummm J, I thought you bought the "lower" one by accident, correct?

Hey JV what's your lower one cost? I'm thinking I want to be cool too and replace my CD storage, if it doesn't affect my resale value. That last part was a joke.
