Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So, spring is here and the hardtop is removed for the season. Upon positioning the windscreen, one of the plastic arms near the middle hinge snapped. AYAH!! Anyone have any ideas on what kind of glue will work on this type of plastic. I'm intrigued by the stuff they advertise on TV that is set by blue light.

POST 2Original post

Hardtop finally off is great news but thank goodness for having it the last month or two in the monsoons. Plastics can be really tricky if you use the wrong cement and you can really wreck the parts. I've worked with Plastic Works on a number of projects over the years and they've been really helpful. Locations in Langley and Surrey so not too far away from you. If they can't help you they'll certainly put you on the right track. I'll be driving right by their Langley location tomorrow and will show them my wind deflector and ask them what would work. http://www.plasticworks.ca/locations.html You should come out for PCA Canada West Region Bob's Breakfast Club this Saturday. Season opener and it would be great to have another cab in the group. Early start so you can be home by 9:30-10AM - and no, I'm not Bob... 6:00 am – 9:00 am Map to Caulfield Starbucks Bob’s Breakfast Club Season Opener Welcome to Bob’s Breakfast Club, otherwise known as the BBC, which started as my idea way back in the winter of 1996. The first event started with about 25 Porsche cars and their drivers as an excuse to get like minded people together for a short early morning drive followed by a socializing breakfast / car show at the Tomahawk Restaurant in North Vancouver.

Ok, thanks, maybe they'll have some good advice. As far as Saturday, I'm in!

POST 4Original post

Here is a plastic cement that should likely work for your project.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Wow Hound, that's great, thanks. Is it readily available at Home Depot or the like? Intended to come out Saturday, but got over-refreshed at Lulu's. Have to get out this year to meet the crowd.

POST 6Original post

Found this glue at Robertson Plastics at 19505 56th Ave, Surrey just off the Langley Bypass. $12 You missed an epic BBC run. Absolutely beautiful day with around 56 cars including almost every wet dream Porsche you could name. Catch one when you can.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'll get on both of those. Thanks Hound

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ok, so finally got around to finding the epoxy that you recommended. Went to Rona and they have something almost identical but not the Devcon brand you mentioned, but looks like made by same people, maybe in the same factory so I purchased it. I mixed the epoxy and applied to the area shown. I'll report on how it works.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Months later, it's now August and the glue did not hold. What I'll try is a piece of dowling, wood or plastic to buttress the break in the hollow arms and then glue again. Will report.

POST 10Original post

That's exactly what you need to do. Drill out both ends and use a dowel (good) or threaded rod (better) and epoxy to join the ends together. Gluing a butt joint like that will never hold worth a damn. Carbon fiber or fiberglass, impregnated with epoxy and wrapped around the repaired joint, will make it pretty much bomb-proof.
