Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I know this is an older thread, but my 1999 996 just started doing this after taking off the TB to replace the oil filler neck.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

my 996 had been garaged for some time. when i started it the revs went to 400-4500 and would not come down. any thoughts?

POST 2Original post

Intake leak behind the tb. Sounds like unmetered air? Maybe the idle control. Look for a pending code Also give us some info about your car

POST 3Original post

If yours has a throttle cable perhaps it has become unseated from a bracket or at the TB itself thereby opening it slightly and causing the rpm you see

POST 4Original post

I know this is an older thread, but my 1999 996 just started doing this after taking off the TB to replace the oil filler neck. Has the OP ever diagnosed the issue?

POST 5Original post

@314 HUMVEE check to make sure you reinstalled the throttle cable the correct way. The little black square that holds the cable to the TB can be installed upside down which leave the throttle open a little less than half way.

Thanks Kris. I'll check it tomorrow. The butterfly would be partially open like this, right? I know mine is closed currently. I ordered a TB gasket to be proactive, because I noticed my old one was nearly flat, meaning no seal.

POST 7Original post

Im betting one of the plenum boots is not seated correctly. Eveyone swears its right until they double check it and realize its not.

I swear mine is seated correctly. But I'll check tomorrow also. Lol Thanks Jeeper. BTW this group is far more responsive than the 970 Panamera group. Much appreciated.
