I found a guy selling star specs on craigslist but all 4 were 255s so I was only able to use them on the rears...I now have 2 extra star specs for the rears and it only set me back 100$

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Got my 911 vinyl wrapped in gloss metallic black, also added a reflective 911 Carrera sticker in place of the badge I had for some weight savings 😊. Ill add more pics when I get a chance

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Forgot to mention that I did the work myself and it isnt finished completely. The obvious being the wing and mirrors but I also have the silver piece behind the bumper left to do.

POST 3Original post

It looks awesome! How much was the wrap? How hard is it to do?

POST 4Original post

I'm gonna be doing my BMW soon myself too. Keep us updated on how the wing turns out and be glad you don't have a Taco. What film did you use? I didn't want to spend too much on Hexis so it was down to VVivid and 3m 1080. Decided to go with 3m. Avery was a possible option but I felt better with the history and support for 3m. Wrap material has gone down in price recently due to all the competition. You can get a roll big enough to do your car for under $500 for most brands. The biggest things for newbs is to be careful not to cut into the paint. This is where cutting tape or string can come in handy. A good heat gun or propane torch is a must as well as some good utility knives and felt based squeegee.

POST 5Original post

WOW, that's really amazing - and the fact you did it yourself is awesome! now...where did you get the wrap? What did it cost, and how long does something like that last? Is it easily scratched? I'd like to change the color of my 996, and wrapping it never even occurred to me. What color was yours before?

POST 6Original post

Open the door and take a picture of the door jambs please.

POST 7Original post

Looks great! I was considering a wrap, but its just too expensive to have it done

POST 9Original post

I want to wrap my 02 C4S. I would love to see how you dealt with the roof, particularly the little hatches for the roof rack...

How much did shops quote you in Florida?? Funny thing, I have a 99 and those little white brackets underneath the clips actually broke into pieces when I removed the trim so I need to buy new ones. Normally I would lay out one long strip and then make a cut around the flaps and just tuck them. If you cut it correctly it should leave no visible paint I will do so shortly You can buy the wrap from ebay from a store called "metrorestyling". They carry big name brands and very affordable prices, a 75ft roll will cost anywhere from 300-600 depending on color and youll be left with about 20 ft for mistakes and whatnot. If done right it can last up to 5 years and does not scratch as easily as paint. Vinyl wrap technically melts under the sun but only enough to self heal and remove and fine swirls. Its really amazing stuff. DO IT! I hate hexis with a passion and 3m is not my top choice either. After using most of the brands Ive come to enjoy using avery the most because the glue is most forgiving. Hexis and 3m, once they vinyl touches paint it gets very sticky and hard to lift up in order to position the vinyl, avery doesnt do this as much but still holds just as good as 3m does. Let me know if you need help with the BMW

I was quoted $3500 for a matte finish wrap

POST 13Original post

Quotes source post: 13529885

Interesting. Were you working with 3M's 1080 scotchprint series? I wrapped a few items with the 1080 and didn't encounter any issues like you describe. I found 3M's to be warranted for up to 10 years where most others are 5+ years. Good Job!

POST 14Original post

Outstanding job. Very professional result! (I have enough trouble applying simple things like numbers, race class decals, and accent decals to know I should not ever DIY an entire wrap!)

POST 15Original post

Very impressive post wrap pics. Thank you. Now go pat yourself on the shoulder.

Because he's mixing tire brands often due to the short life of a Porsche rear tire. I've done it in the past Sneaky Pete. Unless you are tracking or placing high driving demands on your 911, i'd venture to say it's okay. I know it isn't recommended . Have you been tracking your 997?

POST 19Original post

Quotes source post: 13534448

Yep and I have gotten close to doing that a few times. Funny you ask about tracking the 997....starting this Friday is a 3 day event with the Mid-Ohio PCA at the Indianapolis Speedway!!! We are driving the GP course. Besides myself, Spruden, DWS964 and others will be there. I'm sure pics will be posted.

Ill drive out to Florida and do it for 2500 if you'd like. 3500 is overpriced especially for matte. Thank you! Heres more 😊 Yes I used the 1080, if you ever use avery youll know what I mean 😆 It takes a while to learn the techniques but once you do its very rewarding! I had brand new tires on the car when I purchased it but the rears wore out very quickly while the front still look brand new. I found a guy selling star specs on craigslist but all 4 were 255s so I was only able to use them on the rears...I now have 2 extra star specs for the rears and it only set me back 100$

POST 21Original post

Quotes source post: 13537284

Great job on the corners. Did you use the SW900 series? I'll have to try some on some interior trim soon. I'm going with 3M for the BMW as they have a certain finish/color that I want that Avery doesn't have. I will say the 1080 can be tempermental depending on the ambient working temperature. I've wrapped with it in the winter, spring, summer and have noticed quite a bit of difference in workability. I've learned most of the tips/tricks from my boy Justin Pate from Avery. He's the man. For those that want to get into doing this themselves, just search Justin Pate tutorials on youtube.

Yes it was the SW900 series, avery is definitely worth a try but like you said sometimes the color options vary between these brands. Whether you choose avery or 3m you will definitely go down the right path either way, some might not even notice the difference but after having played with vinyl on so many cars and bikes of friends of mine I tend to notice these subtle differences and as a personal preference have chosen avery above all.
