I have had both brands and Spyder uses a weaker plastic that tends to crack easily and also doesn't use as robust wire insulation that can get brittle and break off over time.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

What's up guys. New to this forum. I am on 6speed but this seems to be more active....
Anyways, I am looking to change my head & tail lights. My 911 is blacked out and was thinking black or smoked head & tail lights. Ecs tuning has black headlights made by depo, but doesn't have any pix of them. I even called and ask and nobody could get me an actual picture. As for tail lights, I know about the red led ones they sell, but looking for something blacked or smoked.....saw some on eBay.....just seeing if anyone Boight any blacked or smoked and has any feedback for me.
Thanks in advance

I have NOT yet done this mod/upgrade but have read up on it. Should be plug-and-play: remove old assembly and plug in new (LEDs already in it). Some units come with a resistor so the flash rate is correct. Check out the tons of DIYs on youtube to give you an idea on the ease of install
You want the blacked out look? Then check out these...

Omg that first link they are so beautiful. But I don't know if I wanna spend 3k on headlights alone! But they are Amazing. Again I wish I could get a picture of the depo blacked out ones. Guy said order and if I don't like, ship back, but nobody wants to do that. A picture would great.
I don't know if I wanna spend 3k on lights, because last year I added fabspeed exhaust, headers, and intake, and new 19s lol. I put like over 7k in with all that. But it's very tempting......
And I just saw ur 3rd link about the 3rd brake light....I do want that, but I already have the side markers. U have a link to buy 3rd brake light alone?
Also, adding, head, tail, and 3rd, will I have any bad codes or blown fuses or has everything been made better than the old threads I'm reading?
IMO murdered out black is played out but it's your car.
As for the actual answer, the main players are Depo and Spyder taillights with Depo only making '99-01 headlights as well in both chrome and blacked out versions.
You can get LED taillights in traditional 996 design or the 997.2 style design. the traditional 996 design or the all clear taillights come in both tinted and non-tinted versions.
Personally I'd stick to Depo. I have had both brands and Spyder uses a weaker plastic that tends to crack easily and also doesn't use as robust wire insulation that can get brittle and break off over time. Also the older Spyder versions do not have the built in resistors so it may trigger some warning lights on the dash.
Or you can always tint either the factory ones or aftermarket ones yourself if you want it darker.

Naw, from what I've heard the newest LED tail lights are pretty much plug and play. However, since the transformer heats up, you may want to mount it porsche's light area instead on the light itself. They've been known to melt the plastic.
I bought these smoked LED tails from eBay a couple of years ago; they've been perfect. If you'd like, I can take a less potato picture for you.
I paid a whopping $284 for the pair.
Did my research....these are the ones depo makes.....
The link u sent has them for $1399......ecs has them for $1044....
Going to order from them in the morning cuz I was promised free shipping......
Thanks for leading me the right way
Bumping this up.....
So I ordered smoked headlights made by depo from ECS. Paid, they said were on back order til 18th......got email yesterday saying they were discontinued. Therefore I am without the upgraded head lights I want....
I got smoked tails from spyder, due to newborn haven't been able to throw on yet....
Sooooo.....where am I getting head lights? Someone suggested parts4euro.com, but I read bad reviews, and I emailed them with no response.
Anyone deal with them? Any other thoughts? Thanks guys
If you actually want good light output, skip the Depo's and roll your own. If you're not that skilled or wanna take on the task, member ParticleWave does it for a nominal fee. He's on here and also 986 forums.
Yes, bake your existing headlights to soften the adhesive and take the headlights apart to blacken them and install high quality projector assemblies.
