Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Ive personally checked the 0-100mph and they do get there in under 11 sec which puts it close to the turbo and gt3 of similar years WOW..

IIRC, Motor Trend ran the fastest 0-60 time(of any of the mags) when they tested the then new 996 MKI of 4.6 sec but I think MT's 0-100 mph time was 11.9 sec.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

29 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Look at this guys i didnt realise the 3.4 litres were faster than many others including 993's etc,

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I dont get how the 3.4's have more HP than the 3.6's? Ive personally checked the 0-100mph and they do get there in under 11 sec which puts it close to the turbo and gt3 of similar years WOW.. talk about under-rated

I pasted it from the site, the link is here, http://www.autosnout.com/Car-Comparison.php

POST 6Original post

My 99 3.4 6 speed carrera 4 cab is the same as my 2009 carrera 4 cab with the pdk. As far as that chart the 3.6 was not until 2001

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 13530659

The Chart is of a 2003 3.6 so that still applies, So the 3.4 models went 1998 to 2001 , ive heard of some made in 1997 also, dont know if true

POST 8Original post

no doubt the HP figures are a "TYPO." all other literature on the 996 3.6 clearly shows it has more HP/TQ vs the 3.4 (320 HP-3.6 VS 300 HP-3.4)

POST 9Original post

It does , the 3.4 is 295 hp and the 3.6 is 315 hp . The 3.6 air cooled motor is closer to the data posted , I suspect they posted the wrong cars stats , the 12 valves is a giveaway .

POST 10Original post

What he said ^. The data is accurate comparing 993 to 996. The lack of 4 valves per cylinder and the peak HP RPM are giveaways.

POST 11Original post

They didn't post the wrong Data they just posted the wrong picture of a car under the 1998 993 with the 3.6L.

Not to quibble, but the MY99 3.4 is rated at 296hp.

POST 15Original post

Quotes source post: 13530975

And some of us had 300 from the factory. You can really feel those extra four horses - and I'm sure they at least partially compensate for the car not being red

POST 16Original post

I think 296hp was standard for the 3.4, but if you got yellow or red then you got 300hp

POST 17Original post

Quotes source post: 13530633

Since when does the 996 come with a 5-speed manual?

POST 18Original post

1998 Porsche Carrera 2 w/3.6L Transmission 5-speed ZF 5HP19 automatic 5-speed Mercedes-Benz 5G-Tronic automatic 6-speed Aisin SP6 manual So no 5 speed manual...but it's EBay

POST 19Original post

Quotes source post: 13531459

Thanks. This chart just hurts my brain. They could have said "5-Spd Auto/6-Spd Manual" at least.

POST 20Original post

That chart(fugly as it is) shows impressive acceleration numbers for the 996 - with the exception of the 1/4 mile MPH figure.

POST 21Original post

The top end of the quarter mile is where you really start feeling the effects of lower horsepower (having an extra 500HP is very handy once wind resistance starts to become a real factor), and any aero generating downforce at those speeds is eating into your ET.

POST 22Original post

Quotes source post: 13531571

Agreed. I just meant that I have seen other tests of the 996(MKI) which have shown higher MPH figures for the 1/4 mile. On the other hand, the 0-60 mph and 0-100 mph figures look very strong in this chart. IIRC, Motor Trend ran the fastest 0-60 time(of any of the mags) when they tested the then new 996 MKI of 4.6 sec but I think MT's 0-100 mph time was 11.9 sec.

POST 23Original post

The 1/4 mile is listed as estimated at 13.42 @101.5 0-100 in 10.5 then it takes nearly 3 sec. to gain 1.5mph.... I'm positive my car will pull from 100 to 102 in less than 3 sec. Maybe my car's a ringer, but I doubt it.

POST 26 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Does the difference in US vs ROW cars continue pst the early days of the 930 3.0 ie; US cars 245hp Row cars had 260 Im sure the Carrera 3.2's in the 80's also had higher hp for ROW I do know the 996.1 , 3.4 in ROW Form puts out 296hp and has a higher HP per ton than all preceeding NA cars and also some later ones as well noticeably the 4 wheel drive carrera Even with the 3.6 engine cant hold a candle to the sprightly 3.4 this is a fact but are they all the same across the globe i wonder, Some Stuttgart facts would be good

POST 27 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 13531608

That sounds on the mark, ive trouble pushing mine under 11 sec, but its fun trying

POST 28Original post

Quotes source post: 13533131

+996 Stop it already

POST 29Original post

Quotes source post: 13533801

I am afraid it will NOT stop.....until someone agrees with the OP that ROW cars have more hp/tq, goes faster/mo betah, etc. So......Mistergee, I agree and you are correct
