The factory way is to use the long metal strips but most that mount these after the fact do not use these.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey, my second post today - something in the air I guess... So I got myself a set of OEM Mk1 side skirs, rocker moulding whatever you call it, and i'm trying to demystify the proper / simple way to fix them. I've been through search (oh yes) and read through Porsche shop manual but I still don't get it. The part where skirt goes fixed under the rocker using clips is pretty obvious. Same for front and back , we're using old hole from mudflap and in front, a plastic clip. The part that is confusing is along the rocker, beneath the door - do I absolutely need those multi-hole metal strips I can purchase from dealer ? Manual says NOT to drill anything when mounting those, but why the holes are there anyway and how does it hold? Any help will be appreciated.

POST 2Original post

The factory way is to use the long metal strips but most that mount these after the fact do not use these. Mine came with these when I bought it but I didn't bother using them. Better off using 3M Autobody panel double sided tape. This stuff is strong and can rip your skin off.

I agree Alpine's advice is the way to go, but whatever you do, don't try to weld it on! (snicker)
