There are some sketchy used options on eBay, and none of the reputable dismantlers have the correct part in stock, not that I would necessarily have gone this way.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

We know this, but when it happens it is still painful. My memory driver's seat has been slowly failing for a few years, acting strangely whenever the car is unlocked remotely. The other day it failed completely. Not of course before reclining completely, making the car undrivable. Repair options? Seems like only one - new module. 996.618.537.03. $1K+. From Germany. Ugh. There are some sketchy used options on eBay, and none of the reputable dismantlers have the correct part in stock, not that I would necessarily have gone this way. File this under the reality of keeping a 14 year old Porsche on the road.

POST 3Original post

Take a look on eBay. There are a couple for sale, one is $100.

I did... But when I looked at delivery times that had September in them, and the thought of a used module that fails, I chose to go with new. I've recently committed to this 911 long-term. Had the front resprayed and did Eibach springs and Koni yellows. Gonna try to make it last. Shorting maintenance and used parts does not match that goal.

POST 5Original post

#1 - I feel your pain... #2 - Why did it fail? Did it ever get wet? #3 - Did you open it up to see if there were any obvious signs of damage that could be addressed? I suppose since you've already ordered a new one it's sort of moot, but if you could repair this one, perhaps you could ebay it to ease the pain a little... Good luck.

POST 6Original post

Very rare. Seats are almost always trouble free.

Oh that this was true. The seat memory module is a known, and expensive, weak point. They fail slowly over time, rather than suffering a sudden failure. Mostly they lose the ability to remember settings. And while the module is fairly common in the 986/996 series, the part number for 2002+ 996s with memory is different. Most you find on eBay and such have .01 or .02 as the last digits. This one is .03. Dammit.

POST 8Original post

I purposely took mine out so only "I" can drive it. Problem solved.

POST 9Original post

Tell me it doesn't start reclining back while driving down the road, that would be super weird to see.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ha! Thankfully not. What it did for a couple of years was to recline completely whenever the door was unlocked remotely. Did this just before it died completely too.

Ah bummer. Wonder what's so special about theses control modules. They can't be more complicated than a DME.
