Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

If you could, I would assume you might have to disconnect the battery for a while before the alarm would let the ignition function?

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So I leave town for a long weekend, and return to the usual 5 day disabled key fob on my 2000 996 Cab. No problem right?, just unlock it manually with the key and you're good to go! Unfortunately, when I did so, the internal door lock mechanism went completely slack and apparently came to the end of its useful life!
Can you slim jim one of these? Wasn't sure if there is a cable or rod mechanism in there. If you could, I would assume you might have to disconnect the battery for a while before the alarm would let the ignition function?
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!!
Next time, hold your key in the door lock, turning and holding to the left to open the soft top. Reach over and try the driver door from inside the car. When you do it your way, and you do not open the door or cannot, the car should lock itself up again. Does it do this?
Careful if you ever try using a slim jim. These cars have side airbags. I watched a fellow LEO try to slim jim a side air bag car and the bag triggered. The resulting slim jim embedded in the head was not a pretty sight.
When I got locked out I called a locksmith and he got into the car in less than 2 minutes - these guys know what they're doing and he didn't break anything. Once I simply replaced the battery all was good again.
Also, if a locksmith can get it open, does anyone have any experience on how the car is going to react to the "break in"? Will it disable the ignition from being used? Will I need to disconnect the battery for a while to reset this...and get the alarm to go off?!
Thanks again for everyone's brainstorming on this!
Once the door is opened then the alarm will sound in a few seconds. You can stop the alarm by inserting the key in the ignition and turning the key on. I do not think you have to start the engine but be prepared to if you do not and you turn the key off the alarm might sound again.
Correct - my key wouldn't work either so I called a locksmith. As Macster suggested, I had to put the key in the ignition to stop the alarm. The service call was not very expensive IIRC after spending almost a week trying to get in myself.
Well that certainly was the quickest $80 I've ever seen anybody make! The locksmith used an air bladder to pull the drivers window out enough to reach in an pull the interior door handle with a long rod. Fired up the car to turn off the alarm etc...and all was well! Thanks again for the help!
I would venture that that was a well spent $80. Now get your door lock fixed. It is the plunger on the end of the lock cylinder that connects the lock to the locking mechanism. Somebody here has done this before and may have the part number. See door lock mechanism here
