Suggestion

Remember, this is still a 16yo performance car so make sure that a 5-10k repair bill wouldn't be catastrophic for you before you buy it.

Looking for a weekend car with occasional track use (1-2 times a year at most) from what I've been seeing via Auto trader for lower mileage stock examples this is running about 4-7k above considering all the work done.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just joined this forum today, looking for some advice as I am currently debating picking up a 2001 Turbo from Champion Porsche down in south florida. It's a yellow one with a nice list of mods (most of which i'd want to do myself if I were to buy a stock one) has 47k miles for 54k. Not sure if this is a good deal as they also have a bone stock with 29k miles for 50k. Both are very clean. What issues should I look for under inspection other than the over revs on the computer (type 3 and higher if i remember correctly). I've owned a 2014 cayman w/pdk before so this is my first 911 i'm considering List of mods/recent work done: OEM Porsche Aerokit Billet K16 Turbo Chargers Bosch 72 LB EV14 Injectors Tubi Style Exhaust New Coil Packs New Oil Lines New Plugs Sachs Sport Clutch New OEM Flywheel Moton Clubsport Coilover Suspension Tarret Drop Links 996 GT3 Sport Seats w/ Painted Seat Backs and Deviated Stitching in Yellow Painted Console OEM Porsche Short Shifter Custom Steering Wheel w/ Flat Bottom and Yellow Stitching Expel Self Healing Clear Bra Full Front Coverage

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

note just realized there is also a turbo forum haha sorry new to the forums here, this may be a better question on there. But will leave up if anyone has any opinions on it

POST 3Original post

A lot of 996tt guys hang here - you will soon see why. Become familiar with the "ignore" feature in your control panel and you will save yourself some aggravation - that's pretty much what everyone else does. Price seems a little on the high side. I would think more like $47k based on your description. Type 2 overrevs is what you'll be looking for. In general, these are great cars. Bone stock cars normally command higher prices than ones with mods. Mods don't really increase value and conventional wisdom is that they hurt value.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thank you was wondering on the mods thing, i thought it seemed like a good deal as it was listed higher but I talked them down some. I see these things range from 50-70k depending on the condition and mileage here in south florida and even under a national search on auto trader. I'm looking for a lower mileage example and 47k is pretty low to me as my 97 e36 m3 had 119k on it when i got it in nov and that was considered low mileage for the year haha. The ones on auto trader going for lower tend to be very high mileage like 65+ k in comparison and are usually stock/slightly modded. I do like the aero kit as that cost alone on parts i looked up was around 7k plus paint and install so that is not bad. The moton coilovers are 6k, the tarret drop links are like 500 each i believe and the k16 billet turbos are over 2k plus labor. All these are things id want to do if i buy a stock one. So i figured for a couple grand over a stock example i can get the car how I'd basically want it without having to spend as much.

POST 5Original post

What are you planning on doing with it? If you are planning on track or AutoX it looks like a nice build. I like the aero, the seats and the Motons. But if you are just going to be using it on the street, this build is a waste IMO as it does sacrifice quite a bit of comfort for performance. 54k sounds about right for a dealership where you figure you are paying a 10-15% premium. I would highly recommend finding a good independent Porsche shop to do a PPI for you. Make sure they are familiar with the 996tt and if you are going to track it, that they have race experience. I'm sure others can chime in with recommendations. Remember, this is still a 16yo performance car so make sure that a 5-10k repair bill wouldn't be catastrophic for you before you buy it. Let us know how it turns out.

Looking for a weekend car with occasional track use (1-2 times a year at most) from what I've been seeing via Auto trader for lower mileage stock examples this is running about 4-7k above considering all the work done. The car is being offered by champion porsche in south Florida but would get it checked out by someone I know who specializes in European vehicles. To me it having the aerokit and a new clutch/flywheel with the short shifter make up for the price being higher than a stock one. The rest is just icing on the cake, I have a e36 m3 as a daily and should be getting my mother who passed away her 04 cts with 90k miles that will be the daily.
