Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

The 996 has no usable storage under that lid; there's no reason to add a convenience button for something that is seldom used (and never used as a convenience...).

Leading evidence: 'Use (and never' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'same part (going' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Use (and never' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

in fact, the BCM is probably the same part (going to check it out), which bring me to think, if it is possible to program a 3 buttons remote to a 996.

how ever, on my 99 box, both trunks had mechanical levers, but for the front you could also used the remote.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Not sure if this subject was discussed before, but this thing puzzles me since the first day i bought my car. so on my 02 C2, both the frunk and the engine lid has electric buttons that basically open them up. i had the same button on my 01 Boxster S. one for the trunk one for the frunk. The difference is, that on the Boxster I use to have 3 buttons on the remote. One to unluck the door, one for the trunk and one for the frunk. On the 996, only two. Unlock and frunk. So Im wondering if all are like that, and if so, what is the reason for not having additional button for the engine lid? Thanks in advance. Meir.

POST 2Original post

My guess: the Boxster has usable storage space under the rear lid, so you need a button to access it. The 996 has no usable storage under that lid; there's no reason to add a convenience button for something that is seldom used (and never used as a convenience...).

thats an option. how ever, on my 99 box, both trunks had mechanical levers, but for the front you could also used the remote. if the the actuator is already there, it just a matter of adding another button to the remote. in fact, the BCM is probably the same part (going to check it out), which bring me to think, if it is possible to program a 3 buttons remote to a 996.

POST 4Original post

If you have a Targa, you get a 3 button remote. Doors, frunk and hatch

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

sure enough, the part number for the BCM is the same for the box and the 996 year 01 and up. so basically if i would like to activated it, i just need to program a 3 buttons remote to my car. thanks for the insight Jay.

I don't know if the 3rd button will do anything on a non Targa or 986 with electric latches
