I quickly purchased and installed a genuine lock assembly from Porsche.

Yes, called AAA and they used airbag wedge and rod to open the door handle.

Used the cable to open the rear engine cover and the alarm starting going off.

I thought it was a dead battery (and it still might be, will try those in the morning), but it seems strange that the battery has enough juice to set off the alarm (lights, horn, etc.) but not to unlock the door when the key is turned...
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi, all,
I've scoured the forum but haven't found a solution to my particular problem (01 Cab). Neither key fob would unlock the car this morning either from the fob or with the key in the door lock. Turning the key in the door lock didn't do anything. The alarm light on the dash was still flashing. Tried new batteries in the fob, didn't help. Used the cable to open the rear engine cover and the alarm starting going off. Hooked up a jumper box to the terminals but the door lock (and fob for the frunk) still wouldn't work. Any ideas??
Thanks in advance!
Straighten a wiry coat hanger (with a hooked end) and wedge it through a side window. Hook it onto the interior door release handle, and pull.
Ive never tried this, but I think itd work. You might leave a scratch or marking on the edge of your window, so be gentle.
Dead battery? You need a new 12V battery to hook up to the jumper box terminals. A jumper box or battery maintainer will not work. If you have the engine cover open, hook a new 12V automotive battery to the jump points in the engine bay. Even the door lock depends on having some 12V in the system. Otherwise you are going to have to call a mobile locksmith to get in.

There's also an "emergency" cable pull for the frunk - should be near the passenger side inlet to the radiator through the front bumper. Also if you have the engine bay open you should be able to jump the car from there ???
I have no faith in all the security krap on these cars...so I never lock it ......and I always take the key with me if I am going to be out of the car for a few moments for fear it will lock itself.........
What? The US/CAN 996 passenger side does not have external lock. Don't know about ROW cars, but I do believe it's true only the drivers door has the external keyed lock.
Tell us more about this car. How long have you owned it? Year and model?
IMHO, it sounds like you have double trouble. First, the keyfob's remote electronic board is dead (which you may be able to resync). Second, the lock mechanism is also malfunctioning. The driver side lock mechanisms are well-known to wear out and/or seize up preventing the car from unlocking by the remote or key blade. I know this personally since I experienced it first hand. The lock mechanism would seize up during hot weather. Once the car cooled down, I could enter the car. I quickly purchased and installed a genuine lock assembly from Porsche. All worked great afterwards.
Yes, this is a precautionary measure to protect your battery. 5 days after you locking the car, it will stop responding to the key fob. You need to unlock from the door and then from the key fob for not setting the alarm.
Hey, all. So I hooked a battery to the jump points in the engine bay and still doesn't work. I just bought this car a few weeks ago. Both keys worked in the door lock. Then, after sitting for about a week, neither key will unlock the door (and the fob buttons do not unlock or open the trunk). Replaced the fob battery and still not working. Any possibility other than a broken door lock actuator? Even if I open the door by using the internal handle, I'm concerned the key won't actually start the car because it's no longer linked to the car alarm system? When I open the rear engine cover, btw, the alarm goes off and battery seems to have plenty of juice (horn and lights).
Thanks again...
If the alarm goes off, but you can get in the car, try the key in the ignition (the RF Pill is in the key, and it doesn't need the buttons to work), once you turn the key to start the car the alarm should turn off.
On a bad note, my son's 986 never had the working remote to lock/unlock the car. When (250k miles) the lock internals fell apart, two locksmiths couldn't get in, and we ended up smashing the drivers window.......

One additional fact, which might be relevant. When I got the car the central locking button on the dash did not work at all (didn't do anything when pushed to lock or unlock). But the door and fob all worked fine.
Alright... So I had the locksmith open the door and the key started the car. Now the fob works just fine and locks/unlocks both doors. The door lock on the door itself still doesn't work. Anybody know which part inside the door I need to replace to get that door cylinder lock to work?
Thanks!
So I got a locksmith to open the door and the key started the car (and now the fob works to lock and unlock both doors). The door lock in the door still does nothing. Does anybody know what part I need to fix to get the door lock cylinder working?
Thanks!
Just dont let it sit for more than 5 days without unlocking and re-locking (with the fob) until you get the door handle fixed. After 5 days (I think its 5 days), the fob wont work and youll need to open it with the key if the key doesnt work, you are scaaaaaaaa-rewwwwwwwed!
Yes, called AAA and they used airbag wedge and rod to open the door handle. The key started the car and all is good for now. As long as it's started every five days (or kept unlocked or with window down), I think it should be fine until I can rip the door panel apart to fix it...
Good to know it is 5-days.
Mine is always left unlocked in the garage, so I only notice it when I go out to put something in the frunk and the frunk won't unlock remotely.
I recently learned how to jump the latches after disconnecting my battery.
I have a Noco jump box
Modern Jump Boxes have a safety feature that stops them jumping at zero voltage detected. Once I figured this out, the following steps worked.
Key in ignition, turned to Acc, Jump Box off
Negative clamp on bare metal door hinge bolt
Positive clamp loose
Turn on Jump Box
Press and hold "Override" button until 12v power supply light illuminates
Pull out Jump Terminal from fuse box
Attach Positive Clamp to Jump Terminal
Pull hood switch.
