Also, I am doing a lot of "while in there" stuff, cleaning, tidying, replacing parts found wanting, etc.

I am wondering if this is a job that I can do myself or if I should use a garage with specialist tools.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi all,
My 996.2 C4S LHD passenger side outer CV boot has a hole and has leaked grease. I think it only occurred on the last drive, there were no sounds or vibrations etc. I noticed only while exchanging the summer to winter wheels.
I have ordered and received the part kit, a new boot, clips and grease. I am wondering if this is a job that I can do myself or if I should use a garage with specialist tools. if so how many hours do you expect it to take please?
Many thanks in advance
Its doable. And you dont need to disassemble the front suspension to get the CV axle out like most people claim you do on a 4S.
It can be a stinky/messy job though!!
I am doing both axles in my C4S right now. Taking a while as I only get a few hours at a time and travel a lot. It is smelly and messy, but very doable. How e30rapidic (above) did it without taking the suspension apart is a mystery. I tried and it did not work for me, but I am old. Also, I am doing a lot of "while in there" stuff, cleaning, tidying, replacing parts found wanting, etc. While I love driving the car, I love working on it just as much. Hoping to make it a much better car than when I bought it. Heading toward IMS and AOS replacement soon. I do wish they make an inexpensive dry ice blaster for home use. Some images below.
One axle done and refurbished, painted and ready to install. Also cross brace cleaned and painted as well.
State of disassembly of suspension. Found cracked boots on the lower arms, so replacing them as well. Another order from Pelican!
July when I started this project! Kind of tight in the garage. QuickJacks are incredibly useful.
I removed the straps for the plastic shield, then rotated that shield out of the way. I have photos somewhere, may be on my laptop. Ill look.
actually, just remembered I started a thread
