Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I suspect this happened when trailering the car after I bought it, we ran a chain around the control arm as a safety.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just got a lift and put my recently acquired 2001 C2S (sorry typo in the title) up to take a look. See this thing hanging down from the driver's side rear. What is this and where should it be connected to?

That is the headlight leveling sensor assembly. The plastic bracket is broke and is cheap and easy to replace. Part # 99634137103

1999-2005 Porsche Link Rod 996-341-375-03 | Sunset Porsche Parts Here it is in schematic.

POST 4Original post

The reason the plastic breaks is usually because the joints are seized up, make sure you use some penetrating fluid and work the joint until it moves freely before attaching to a new bracket.

POST 5Original post

It is attached to the lower control arm. There is a hole that the clip attaches to.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks all! Glad it's just the headlight leveling. It doesn't seem to be seized per se, still moves easily. I suspect this happened when trailering the car after I bought it, we ran a chain around the control arm as a safety. That probably knocked the plastic bracket off. Thanks all for the guidance!
