Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I think they used the same harnesses for things like manual and automatic transmissions etc.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Does anyone have a photo or drawing of the wiring harness that identifies where each plug should go? I seem to have some extra plugs and no other connection with my wiring harness. Bill

POST 2Original post

I think they used the same harnesses for things like manual and automatic transmissions etc. So there may be (extra) plugs for options that you dont haveYoull probably get some answers as to what the extra plugs might actually be for, but not from me mesorry.

POST 3Original post

Bentley manuals have the full drawings if y cant find them on-line. U can also post a pic of the plug, where it is and we can tell u what its for.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Here are the pictures. Hopefully y ou can tell me where they go. The one picture has a plug that is tagged. I know where that one goes.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The tagged one is the throttle body and the temp sensor is on the other side of the engine I think. Thanks for trying. I just need to buy the Bentley manual.

POST 7Original post

1st pic. The plug to the right might be the engine compartment air temp sensor that mounts to the intake. 2nd pic. The plug with the orange is the extra plug that would go to the tip trans if u have a 6spd. The other plug might be the change over valve. Its part if the vacuum line system. If i get a few minutes ill try to id them in my bentley Edit pic 2; the 2 wire i think goes to the gas tank regen valve the comes off the air tube from the throttle body 3 wire might be the hall sensor. Red/violet, red/green, brown/pink Pic 1. I cant see the wire color but if its the air temp sesor ut will be blue/pink and brown/pink

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks so much. I will try to find the corresponding plugs that I have not seen. Also, I decided that I need the Bentley manual and so just bought one that will be delivered in a week or so.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I searched the engine and did not find anywhere to plug these in. All plugs and connections are taken. Bill

POST 10Original post

That cannot be correct; the 3-pin plug in the foreground is a camshaft position sensor plug. To help us help you we would need a list of orphaned plugs with the wire colors for each plug.

Regen part would have stayed in the engine bay and since the air temp sensor is mounted on the intake (not on your engine) thet still may go to those items.

POST 12Original post

On my engine, as far as I remember, all the elctrical connects on the engine, except for the PSE connection which follows the two large bundles of wire to teh passenger side connectors, of course mines a 2003 so likely different, for instance I have a 6MT and there are no extra connections for the tip. Different wiring harness than mine..

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Here is a list of the plugs and and wire colors. There is only one socket available and that is on the throttle body. This is a C4 manual transmission 996. 1. 2 wires - red/blue and red/purple 2. 3 wires - red/white and brown and red 3. 2 wires - white/black and blue 4. 4 wires - white/green and yellow/black and red/brown and blue/grey 5. 2 wires - purple and red/blue "theprf" Hope that this helps you and me. LOL Bill

I wish I could help you - those colors don't match the wiring diagrams I have. I have only 1999 and 2000 3.4 cable throttle and egas.

POST 15Original post

The only one i can id is #5. Thats the gas vapor regen valve. Btw, purple is shown as vi = violet in the drawings
