Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.
Discussions that report identifying a cause

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Reported cause
It was the first thing I did to my car when I got it 5yrs ago.
Leading evidence: 'first thing i did' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'first thing i did' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Install their mufflers this morning' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Or you can buy a set already done and send him your to swap and he will reuse your for another rcustoer.

Have the swap done, preferably at same time you have 200-cell cats installed with all new hardware (to get your exhaust all set just right at one time).

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Thx guys. Just a basic GoPro suction cupped to the rear bumper.
Im a guitar player so the plate is part Spinal Tap and part nod to Singers One more than ten philosophy.
Had mine done by Darin, too! It was the first thing I did to my car when I got it 5yrs ago. Was great chatting with him in the shop while the exhaust was swapped.
Great mod for the money! I consider it a must-have mod for 996 owners, The original exhaust was not suited for the car at all.
The Tubi Style exhaust decimates all 996 exhausts! So expensive though.
OK, here is the "basic" questions for the Fister 996 exhaust mod.
trying to understand the process and options. went to their website and see different option for finish, etc. and connectors. also seems like you order the parts and then send your old ones back and get a credit if they are in good shape for their mod and sale to somebody else.
The process seems confusing, short of driving to SFO.
I don't have tools/time to do it myself, so searching for either a shop "or the Porsche dealer??"
any insight into process and how it can be accomplished would be appreciated.
You can send your mufflers to him and wait for him to mod them and send back to you. Or you can buy a set already done and send him your to swap and he will reuse your for another rcustoer. So it's really a matter of how long you can be without your car. And a difference in cost.
Either way, you will love the new sound!
Yep. Buy his mufflers. Install em and send your old ones back. You have 10 days to do so and get your core charge back. I live close so I took my car to his shop. Had the mufflers done and an oil change in 2 hours. 👍
Freebe - Buy the Fisters. Take the car to your muffler shop or indie. Have the swap done, preferably at same time you have 200-cell cats installed with all new hardware (to get your exhaust all set just right at one time). Put old mufflers in box the Fisters came in. Mail them back to Darren. Done deal.
thanks
what is the deal on the cermachrome, titanium, velvet black, bright silver, nothing finishes. I believe the first has some thermal properties, but the remainder seem to only give some protection to the SST? Any value?
then there are the "new bolts". Guess the installer can check to see if they are needed before order.
the mufflers cost $449?? +$600 core fee refund or +$600 direct mod. Still confused.
so if I have my mufflers taken out and sent to FD, the material cost is $449 for mod plus shipping?
Hey bash Hat, do you have any other intake or exhaust mods besides the Fisters? Mine don't seem to sound that good, of course I don't hear it from the rear like your videos. Thanks
I've had the Fister Exhaust mod for a few years now, and Darren at FD Motorsports is a true Porsche nut and a great guy. And my 1999 Carrera sounds amazing with this exhaust. Here I recently captured the sound with an external microphone ticked under the rear wing of my car.

I ordered replacement mufflers from FD Motorsports but have been waiting for two months with very little update. Anyone have an option for similar OEM-modded mufflers like this that would be in stock?
You have no idea how restrictive the OEM exhaust is. I'm in the process now of cutting open the OEM and removing the inlet pipe and cutting the exit pipe (basically a hollow box). I'll post pictures of the different stages and once all done but good Lord, these things are horrible. There are 3 chambers inside the housing and it's amazing they can even flow. The first chamber (where the exhaust comes in from the motor) is all steal wool and only about 2" of space, then it flows up to the third chamber (this chamber has small holes drilled in the floor of it) through a pipe then (the exhaust gas flow) back down to the second chamber where the exit is about 1/2" off the floor of the second chamber up through to the exhaust tip. It's crazy restrictive!!!!!! No wonder you feel a performance gain once you replace them!
