I ask, as this video : You Tube seems to suggest they are, and he also suggest the 997 items are an "upgrade". Can anyone confirm this ? Or have the 996 cables now been superceded by the 997 items and thus they're now automatically supplied to those ordering new cables for their 996 ? It's a good series of videos documenting the restoration of the underside of a 996 BTW

Don�t know for sure but I would assume so since a 997 transmission can be used in a 996. Just need to route the cables to other side of the transmission.

I�m planning on ordering both from my local OPC, will then check if they�re similar lengths and have identically sized ball joint sockets and fittings at the transmission end.

Otto, you could also consider contacting Function-First. They make cables for both the 996 and 997 so I suspect that they have a definitive answer for you. Plus, they have always been very prompt and helpful when I reached out with questions in the past.
