If you have the LN IMS bearing removal kit ......(they are the Original IMS Guru's who made the tools and process to remove the IMS in situ )....there is a special "odd shaped nut " with a wire attached to it.........You will just tap the broken bolt out the back and let it fall into the tube, finesse the special nut into/behind the IMSB inner race and thread in a threaded piece to use the LN puller...

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.
Rennlist: 1 discussions
0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.
0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

Hey guys, so I was trying to pull the IMS bearing today and wound up snapping the end of the stud off the bearing... I personally would have never sliced the bearing like this, and only have ever sliced the nut, but this is what happens when you personally cant do the work.
So now I can no longer use the threads to use the puller for the ims. What I need to do is weld it or tap it and put new threads on it. I'm scared to have him do the tapping of it because he was saying that the bearing can fall inwards inside the engine and at that point it's a game over. Maybe if I clamp of vise grip on the base of the shaft of the stud so it can't fall in and then tap it?
Any wisdom would be most welcome. Don't we just love these cars

Hahaa yes, absolutely not. We got it out thx to a video I found where the same issue happened, without even chopping the bolt off...
Looks great in there too. Wound up using a standard pilot bearing puller with a PVC pipe acting as a the puller. Then used the all thread rod to yank the bearing!
Also, so strange how its slightly off center! Are they all like this?
