Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I did have the pump pulled from the tank to syphon out the year old gas to replace, but I also double checked the connector on top of the pump as secure.
Leading evidence: 'Check connector' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check connector' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.

I checked every fuse in the panel, and all are good, so I cracked open the FI rail line
Disconnect .....i am guessing no other codes would be present

I also hooked up the Durametric, but the only fault code displayed was "supply voltage", which is expected since the battery was disconnected.....I am guessing no other codes would be present

I did replace the PITA fuel filter, but it should surely have filled the filter and lines with quite a few minutes cranking.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So, connector/wire to the CPS looks fine, but no movement on tach when cranking, so I put the original sensor back in, and no difference...
OK, so trying to start the 99 C2 after an extensive engine-out "replace it before it breaks" job....IMS, Vario cam pads, AOS, starter, etc replacement.
The car cranks great, and even showing oil pressure while cranking, but does not start. I checked every fuse in the panel, and all are good, so I cracked open the FI rail line
and no fuel was present. I did replace the PITA fuel filter, but it should surely have filled the filter and lines with quite a few minutes cranking. So i guess is there a way to test the fuel pump? Does the pump start running when the
ignition is switched on, or only after cranking has started? If on with ignition I suppose I could loosen the fuel rail line again and then crank to purge air from the system??

unless the engine was running, correct?
Any thoughts here would be greatly appreciated!
Most cars now need to see engine rotation to run the fuel pump. Did you plug in the crank position sensor? Do you see RPM while cranking? Does durametric activate the pump?
Look at the tach while cranking the car to see if the needle jumps. This indicates that the crank position sensor is providing pulses. If the ECU does not see pulses from the crank position sensor it will not send voltage to the fuel pump. I had this problem once after an engine out repair. I pinched the crank position sensor wire when reinstalling the engine and had this same problem.
Good luck with it

Thanks, guys...I don't recall seeing tach movement when cranking....new crank position sensor as well....I'll double check that plug and if necessary put the old one back in!
So, connector/wire to the CPS looks fine, but no movement on tach when cranking, so I put the original sensor back in, and no difference...
I also activated the fuel pump/relay with the Durametric and saw some fuel (finally!) at the cracked fuel rail line connector, so it would seem the pump is working....
Does the early '99 have an immobilizer? I did try my old, original key as well.....the search continues...
You have durametric so set it up to read rpm and crank the engine. It should read 200 to 300 rpm while cranking. If it reads 0 while cranking there is a problem with the crank position sensor, wiring, or ecu.
I have seen this very simple mistake happen several times after engine-out, and on the 99 models...
The CRK and CMP Sensors have their connectors mounted side by side, and the engine harness connectors will plug into either one...
Of course if you plug them in wrong, you will have no start....(because one is sending 60 pulses per rev and one is sending 1 pulse per rev)
I have seen guys take days, weeks, months to find this simple mistake......
@Porschetech3
, You nailed it...! Crazy thing is, both of those connectors
are
"color coded"...the crank sensor is grey bodied and the cam sensor is black! Must have been a bit fatigued when we plugged those in. The replacement AOS (factory)
was just enough different shape, making that cam sensor plug almost impossible to get plugged in!!
Owe you a beer, my friend!!

Yeah, fired right up....I now need to see if it is safe to finish bleeding the cooling system with only the 2-1/2 gal I could get in. I did use the vacuum bleeder, but could only draw in about 1/2
of the system capacity...I am at high altitude (8000 Ft) so not sure if that's the reason...system held vacuum fine, just would not draw any more before hitting zero mm vacuum.
