When I bought it, the cluster was unplugged, so I plugged it back in and replaced the ignition switch.

Hello, I purchased my 996 with these problems and looking for possible solutions. The idiot lights stay on all the time and the analog gauges do not work. I have to keep the battery disconnected otherwise it drains. When I bought it, the cluster was unplugged, so I plugged it back in and replaced the ignition switch. Get a Durametric - I think a little under $300. It will tell you in detail what the problems are. Even if you don't intend on doing the fixes yourself, having the information on hand can save you money.
