Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

We just released a new Slakker Porsche Podcast episode where Brandon and I sat down to talk through some of the topics that come up constantly with 996 builds, things we thought this community might appreciate hearing a deeper perspective on. Heres what we covered: Bore Scoring Myths: Whats real vs overstated online, and how top vs bottom scoring changes the diagnosis when evaluating a 996 engine. ECU Cloning: How we approach ECU cloning for displacement-converted engines (like 3.4 → 3.9 or 4.1L) to ensure parameters match and updates are straightforward if an ECU ever needs replacement. Lightweight Flywheels: Real-world comparisons between dual-mass and lightweight setups, what changes in throttle response, drivability, and overall feel. Sensor Placement & Thermostats: Practical recommendations on where to install oil-temp and pressure sensors, and when a lower-temp thermostat truly helps. Shop Reflections: What it means for us to be approaching our 100th engine milestone and some of the naturally aspirated development work underway inside Slakker. The goal with the podcast is to share what were seeing day to day in the shop, the recurring patterns, whats myth vs measurable, and how were continuing to learn from each build. 🎧 Full discussion here → Bore Scoring Myths, ECU Cloning Secrets, Lightweight Flywheels, & Major Slakker Developments Id love to hear your take on some of these especially lightweight flywheel setups. Have you noticed a meaningful difference in response or drivability with your configuration? #WeAreSlakker #Porsche996 #EngineBuild

POST 2Original post

Cant wait to watch later. How does the ecu adjustments impact emissions testing in obdii readiness check states. Interested in the m96.01 3.4 to 3.9 when the day comes but worry about Arizona emissions.

POST 4Original post

I made a point of watching this video uninterrupted by making a point to my lovely wife "Can't you tell I'm focused on Porsche Geekdom" Great video, the one I enjoyed the most from Slakker. It is interesting to find other viewpoints on bore scoring and cylinder scoping. In 2018, as part of my ppi, I had the bores scoped and leakdown done. It came back clean and I purchased my 2003. When i took delivery of the car, it went right into the shop for the solution, water pump, clutch, flywheel, rms, aos, thermostat. That was at 71000 km. Car is almost at 80000 so very little mileage. My big worry has been bore scoring. I do an annual oil change - car is only drive 1000 miles annually. Car gets fresh oil before spring start up. For the spring oil change, I will consider going to a 5W50. I've been doing a 5W40 since I got the car. I think some of my worry about bore scoring has been reduced with this video. I follow all the starting rituals we have been advised to do. Unfortunately, my car is a bit of a garage queen since I don't often have opportunities to drive it. With my previous toy car, we often would use the toy car to go to the cottage. The year I got the 996, we got a standard poodle and not a regular standard poodle, we ended up with a giant. He has been in the 911 once - front legs were by the gear shifter with him in backseat! I can't do that to him on a minimum 2 hour drive to the cottage.....
