Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suspected cause
if the tach needle is bouncing, I wouldn't suspect the CPS.

Suggestion
Just remember if you suspect the CPS, always check the RPM Tach needle for lack of movement while cranking meaning the ECM is not receiving a signal from the CPS.

Leading evidence: 'cps' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'cps' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check rpm tach needle' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My wife was teaching our daughter how to drive my 996 manual. Wife said she stalled the car probably 5 times then the car would not start. Starter was working, then my wife sat in the drivers seat and got the car cranked after a couple tries. They brought the car home right after. Any ideas on what could have happened? Can a fuel injected car get flooded? Thanks in advance
In the exceptionally rare case I stall the engine(really?), and it cranks and stumbles but wont start, I will push the accelerator to the floor and hold it when starting to crank. This turns the injectors off and allows the cylinders to clear. After a few seconds, while still cranking, release the accelerator and it fires right up. Good luck!
And good work teaching kids how to drive a manual. Its a bragging right they will always have! AND, they can teach their friends, without you knowing, except that you find the tire wear excessive. Ask me how I know
In the PCA video " Things to fix when they are not broken yet" Part one, Jake Raby is doing a walk around a removed 996 motor. He points out the crankshaft position sensor (CPS) and states that if it is faulty, it will cause the problem of not starting when the car is hot. Maybe it is from fuel as noted above, but I'd look at the CPS especially if it has not been recently checked. In the video it is just after the 14:00 mark when Jake is walking round the engine.
That's fantastic to teach the next generation about manual cars. We also have a gen 1 Honda insight that has a brutal shift that punishes new students, but I think the 996 is a wonderful car to learn on by comparison.
