Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I'm the original owner of a 99 996 C2 Cab, anyone else out there go all the way back to the showroom? I'm at 148k on the body, rebuilt at 85k by LN Engineering. Cha Ching...it's been a mixed bag, but I'm addicted to just driving it.
What is your experience?
Kept the sticker
first day with the car 1999
Now.
I'm the second owner but it's interesting because it's lived in a four mile radius in San Diego its entire 27 year life. The original owner is also a BMW guy and I still run into him at local BMW and Porsche events.
The day I bought in March of '07.
Currently at ~42k miles.
Very rare to be the Original Owner of a 1999 996...According to the Turnover Rate of Owners in this Forum, every 5-7 years is average...
You are a wonderful Steward !!!
Boss, love it man!
While I am not an original owner, i did buy my 2002 C2 almost new (6 months old) 23 years ago.Yep, I would do it again.
Been too much fun with the car on the street and track. Every time I drive it, I marvel at the incredibly engaging and visceral driving experience that you don't get with the newer models, which is why I still own the car. It fun as hell to drive. Can't say that with the techno wizardry of the newer models.
As a PCA driving instructor i have gotten the opportunity to drive them all. Still havent found any other Porsche model that surpasses the driving experience of the 996. If I did, I would own another one.
Original owner 2001 C2 Cab 6 speed. Took delivery in May of 2001 and we have now travelled approximately 142,000 km.
Long road trips from Toronto include Newfoundland (farthest eastern part of Canada), Key West (southernmost part of US) and Tofino, British Columbia (end of road on western coast of Vancouver Island). Tofino trip was in 2022 and round trip was just over 10,000 km. Tracks include Canadian Tire Motorsports Park (Mosport), Shannonville, Calabogie, Watkins Glen and Tremblant.
Cosmetic refresh in 2023 and exceedingly well maintained. Have every single service invoice from day 1.
LN IMS bearing done. Still have original clutch. Yearly maintenance costs increasing. For example AC condensers, water pump and thermostat replaced this year, Major service coming up in 2026, clutch still good but RMS leaking slightly so clutch replacement is on the upcoming list (2027 I suspect). I would really like to have the undercarriage cleaned by dry ice.
We have ridiculous sales taxes in Ontario. 10% federal “luxury” tax plus 13% federal/provincial sales taxes so I keep thinking of how much that would be on a replacement when I pay the service bills.
I love the driving experience and also enjoy the challenges of maintaining a 25 year old car and having it look like new.
I'm the only owner, and except for maybe 10-15 miles, the only driver of a 2001 C2. Summer car, so 67,000 miles, and maybe 300 days outside. The goal was to be an old guy with an old Porsche.....I used to say so far, so good. I need to say 'Goal acheived!'.
LN IMS replacement was done in 2018. Did not see original but tech said it was ok. Water pump that was replaced this year was 7 years old. I did see the water pump. Bearing was on the way out and some small pieces missing from impeller. Hopefully they were flushed out when coolant was changed.
Porsche recommended service life for water pump is 9 years. My next change will be in 2030 as I think 9 years is too long given what I saw with my 7 year old pump. We shall see who makes it to then, me or the car hopefully both. Ill be 82 then!
