Justin, I had the update to fix the trip odometer installed before.

The disconnect for everyone else that is bashing their head against the Porsche Service department's wall is how do they help their local dealer 'find' this update in their system.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
23 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

So I managed to get the update installed and it seems to have cured the issue.
Hi,
I hope someone has some ideas here as the Porsche dealer only said out of warranty, buy a new one.
The PCCM+ (bought 2022 and installed in 03 Carrera) has started acting up in the last few days. First it became very laggy to react to buttons (see this video
You Tube
), then stopped responding to buttons completely, and now it repeatedly reboots itself after about a minute or so from the last boot.
Anyone experienced this before and have some pointer as to how to diagnose or maybe even repair?
Cheers
While I am relatively happy with my PCCM+, for the price if the dealer said to get a new one, I would likely take the car to an audio shop to spec out a new head unit, amplifier and speaker suite.
Sounds a nightmare. Assuming you haven't had any dealer software update for PCCM? Have you recently upgraded iOS? Mine is working fine i'm still on iOS 18.6.1
IOS 26 is in beta. It is free.
One thought - is your phone old? battery health? Ultimately Apple CarPlay is just a projection. So the slowness might be the phone itself. Have you tried another phone?
Hm, I had the CarPlay suspicion as well. iPhone 15 pro.
However the issue happens just as well without a phone connected. I.e. no wire plugged into the phone USB connector, no CarPlay active, responses to button presses or rotation are very sluggish if happening at all and within a minute or two the unit will reboot itself.
So I managed to get the update installed and it seems to have cured the issue. I say seems because up to now I havent dared to plug in the phone and use CarPlay yet. Its just so nice to have a radio that plays music from the air and an SD 😳😳😳
Heres the version info for the update that solved the issue. Unfortunately I have no idea what the previous version was 😞
@jaybart
An update? how did you swing that?. What was updated? Do you have a before and after?
If I compare mine
OS is the same
AP is 2020......
Reason I ask is there's a quirk that causes the trip meter to reset itself. There's talk of a patch/update but none to be found anywhere on the interweb. Did you have your trip meter resetting before ? I'd be curious if that is resolved.
thanks
Justin, I had the update to fix the trip odometer installed before. So mine wasnt suffering from that anymore. That said, the update is available from your friendly Porsche service center. Very simple process, they need to insert a USB stick with the right files on it, put the unit a couple of times and thats all there is to it.
The few local dealers I asked about this were clueless. Any chance you would be able to ask your friendly dealer for a copy of those files? It looks like the update is just done within the radio itself via the "hidden menu".
Sorry, I cant share the SW. I can tell you though that the Porsche dealer has access to it (I have family working for one) and whats involved in the actual update is plugging in the USB stick, let the unit boot, select system update on the screen, let it load, reboot, then plug the stick again, select update again, this time select MCU and let it load and reboot. Total time (assuming USB stick in hand) 1/2 hour. Maybe an hour if one allows to pick up the stick, move the car in and out, wash it, do a free multipoint inspection.
Since you have a family member working for a dealer - can you share the TSB number? I can use that at the dealer at least. At the moment I cannot convince them that there's a patch available.
Thanks for the information - it's very useful and will come in handy as I continue to hunt for this. If I'm able to get my hands on the files I'll be sure to host and share them with the community. It's a shame Porsche is gatekeeping the update that addresses several issues with the PCCM. Just imagine your phone deleting every other text message automatically and the only way to fix it is to beg apple for a access to an update / fix and jump through endless hoops.
I have / had
exactly
this issue with no resolution. Response in the unit was very very laggy and would randomly reboot whenever it felt like it.
It seems to have stabilized itself now where there is not much lag in the buttons and doesn't reboot - but also sort of factory resets itself every day (radio presets don't save).
Really needs a firmware update but no path to get that done as far as I know.
@jaybart
- do you know if any diagnostics were needed to get the update completed or was this a situation of "I have this PCCM+ issue - oh great we have an update for that". It seems like most dealers are keen to charge about 2 hours of diagnostic time, which may or may not result in a resolution.
@plpete84 I didnt take it to the dealer. I have a family member that works at a dealer so I was able to find out what that dealer can or would do. There seems to be very little internal documentation on these units that would support diagnostics and repair at a dealer. Thats just my opinion.
To simply apply the update no diagnostic time is needed. One gets the car in the shop, connect a battery tender if one wants to be diligent to the nth degree, plug in the USB stick, follow the menus to update the system, let it reboot, follow the menu to update the MCU, done. 1/2 hour is fair.
HI Jarbart,
I know you cannot share the update. And we know what the process is now to complete the update (USB stick, this menu / that menu etc...) and it seems pretty straight forward.
The disconnect for everyone else that is bashing their head against the Porsche Service department's wall is how do they help their local dealer 'find' this update in their system. What information can you ask your family member give us to take to our local in order for our local to say "ahh. you're right... TSB 12345ABC does exist for the PCCM+...."
Right now, for me, I've called four local dealers (local being a stretch being one is 300km away) and all have said "Never heard about a firmware upgrade... book it in for diag. 3 hours...." Yes.. One wants a minimum 3 hours. And all of them are 2-3 month booking waitlist.
