Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Run 12.5 qts' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check dip stick' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

As an example, I run the UAOS Track with a 2qt deep sump in my 996.2.

Suggestion
I recommend adding half a quart, waiting 15 minutes, then checking the electronic display.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I recently had an oil change a couple of days ago. These are the levels when I checked this morning, without warming up the car. Dipstick and dash.
Is the oil too low? I know this is a very nuanced question, as I have been searching posts already
Thanks!
yes, low. add oil then check dip stick. Best to check when cold from sitting over night on level surface. If checking when hot let it sit for 15 minutes or so then check. If close wait till the morning cold check to do final top off to full at right below the top hole in dipstick is were I keep mine.
They also used Mag1
5W40 synthetic oil. Hoping that is a decent quality, as I just noticed that. They changed it at the last minute.
Now to go get some oil at the parts store that actually works for the Porsche
Simple answer is this...
1. If you are running the factory AOS, you want to run a half qt low (halfway between on dip stick) because the factory realized the AOS can't handle full oil and you will blow oil on hills and curves. So they issued a TSB ~ 2 decades ago about it.
2. If you are running the UAOS w/o track drain, you can run it full without a problem and won't blow oil on hills or curves.
3. If you are running the UAOS w/ Track drain, you can run it over the full line by 1 to 2 qts depending on your blow by. See skips "blow by" thread. The reason is the UAOS can process the higher oil levels. So you wont blow oil on hills, curves, and high "G" driving. Best of all scenarios. As an example, I run the UAOS Track with a 2qt deep sump in my 996.2. Factory full is 8.5 qts. I run 12.5 qts. No smoke, no hiccups with all that oil on the track and street compliments of a better AOS. The advantage to all that oil is higher and more stable oil pressure and mitigated oil starvation under heavy G. Probably more info than what you wanted.
Bottom line is the factory AOS is a suboptimal part and should be upgraded if you dont want to worry about overfilling the oil, or even running full oil levels, get the UAOS w/Track drain, regardless of if you track your car or not. Your engine will thank you. The reason is the M96 likes lots and lots of high quality oil to address oil pressure instability and oil starvation. Very easy fix with the UAOS.
Not certain what oil you are running, but my guess is Mobil 1. I would upgrade that as well for your next oil change which should be about 2x a year if you want to keep your oil fresh and provide the best lubrication. Higher viscosity and moly is needed for the M96.
Hope it helps.
I appreciate the detailed answer. I truly do. I am factory AOS for sure since I have never done the update or seen it in the records. The oil the shop used was
Mag1
5W40 synthetic oil.
I will take your advice and fill it to half a quart (halfway on the dipstick). Will update the to the UAOS in the future. I do not do any tracking, so I assume I won't need the track drain.
Thanks again for helping out the rookie
The manual says to add 1/2 liter at a time - which is about half a quart. I bought a measuring cup just for oil, so I can add it as the manual recommends. I was low recently and added half a quart. It brought it from the bottom fill block (like yours) to the bottom of the top fill block on the display.
I recommend adding half a quart, waiting 15 minutes, then checking the electronic display. You can always add more, but it isn't that easy to take some out.
Awesome. Thank you for the recommendations. So per the post above yours, it sounds like I add a little less than half a quart to be at the middle fill range? Great idea on buying another measuring cup for this purpose
Yeah, you can go a quarter or half a quart at a time to get to where you want using the oil stick or dash. I would recommend doing it when the engine is cold in the morning to get a better read on oil levels. I prefer the oil stick but some prefer the dash tool. The attached photo from LN and Porschetech may be helpful.
I would give your indy a call and clarify what they used and get a bottle to use.
Then I would research what oil to want to consider moving to when you change your oil and filter next. I am not a petroleum engineer nor tribologist, but no reason to mix oil if you dont have too. Plenty of threads here on Rennlist comparing oils for data and analysis.
