Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

General question on engine health and oil pressure. I previously owned a 996.1 C4 and the pressure ran around 1.5 on the indicator when warm and idle. I spiked to 4+ when accelerating under load. i now have a 996.1 X51 C2 and it idles at about 2+ once properly warmed but spends time at or above 5 when I am running it hard. Does that seem healthy and what is a normal range? As long as stable is higher better? The car is regularly serviced, and is considered in very good health by the mechanic, though we haven't discussed this extensively, any thoughts?

POST 2Original post

Sounds fine. Likely just a difference in the sensors. Maybe check the oil pressure bypass spring to make sure it's not sticky.

POST 3Original post

Normal. My 996 always ran at 5 above 3,000 RPM even when hot. About 1.25-1.5 when cold. If you run 50w oil, youll be 0.25 bar higher than 40w oil, but also, if your ambient temps are cold or cool 32-50F, you may see another 0.5 difference versus 60-80F. The stock temperature gauge can be off by 0.25-0.5 anyway.
